^ whoa is that the biggest pic we have ever had on these forums?

i would say its cool, but still kind of pissed because that jet shite scared the bejesus out of us when they flew by. we had no idea it was coming lol.

btw the reason the bean is taking so long is between from what i read and also my interview, well err, umm, happy hour bar discussion with the actual installers, is that there is a complicated spring mechanism and tie up that goes inside the bean to keep it flexible and keep the seams from showing. they had some trouble with it and they obviously cant deal with it now during corona time, but they assured me when they had got it to work prior to installation that it works great and the bean looks seamless, so to just hang on.

i wish. its not finished yet. its been sitting there half built since before the pandemic. i dk when the art handler crew is coming back to finish it. i met them when they were working on it at the start, they are from england. anish kapoor is worth over $700M and lives in the building, so you would think they would get it done by now.

He doesn't live in the building, just swapped a condo in it for his sculpture.

Speaking from experience, major artists studios require a LOT of face-to-face interaction and rely on countless global shipments that are probably drastically delayed at this point in the pandemic. It's not surprising to me that this install is dragging on.

Work Resumes On Anish Kapoor’s Bean Sculpture At 56 Leonard Street In Tribeca, Manhattan

Quote:
Work is nearing completion on Anish Kapoor’s reflective “bean” sculpture at the base of 56 Leonard Street, an 831-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Tribeca. The last curved sections of the amorphous work of art have finally been assembled, closing off the missing outer section facing the corner of Leonard and Church Streets. 56 Leonard Street was designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Hill West Architects and stands as one of the tallest structures in Lower Manhattan, with a distinguished massing of irregular cantilevering floors. Anish Kapoor is also known for designing Chicago’s chrome steel-plated Cloud Gate and the ArcelorMittal Orbit from the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Photographs taken around the bean show construction barriers and metal fencing surrounding this entire corner of 56 Leonard Street. The chrome finish is being protected by a thin layer of temporary protective film. Work had halted during the pandemic, leaving the hollow interior of the bean covered with wooden boards until construction could continue. The adjacent ground-floor retail space is still available for lease.
