They should've gone with all concrete panel rather than panel & glass to cover the blind spots. The two shades of glass do not work together at all. It reminds me of stuff that went up in the late '70s.

I second this. Something Chinese-inspired would look really good and fit the neighborhood.

If I lived near this thing I think I'd have to live in it so I didn't have to look at it. That could help with sales!

As someone mentioned, this one looks like it's about ready to be replaced by a modern building. Looks so outdated. Good grief.

This building's only saving grace is that it was developed by a non-profit for altruistic purposes (I forget the exact specifics - senior housing? affordable housing? both?). The fact that the Chinatown org wanted to move forward rather than continue to fundraise to build a nicer looking building is understandable.

Conversely, when a for-profit developer opts for cheap materials and a shoddy design on a product that is marketed as luxury just so that they can make a few extra bucks is totally different and frankly, unacceptable. Waterfront Square and the new tower going up on 19th and Chestnut are two examples of this.

To your first paragraph, I'm glad it got done. Many people on this board were bitching and moaning that it will never happen and would of continue to do so with even more eye-rolling. And, I agree with you, it serves the community that generally doesn't have big money behind it. Overall, it is a plus.

hmm... looks better in this lighting. Maybe go back during a power outage that occurs during a new moon, i think that might be optimal lighting for this one.

i went by here yesterday and this is one of those rare instances where having a base adds to the tower. the views from the basketball court that will be inside are going to be pretty awesome.

I was thinking about it yesterday and totally agreed. It distracts from the ugly tower above.

It's not a bad looking building, in a good spot to liven up the neighborhood. It's just not a super-duper skyscraper, as many might hope.

It honestly doesn't bother me. Glad to see development spreading that direction.
