Navaho Springs, AZ - a SU city

Presenting Rocane got me excited on modeling with SU again. Btw. thanks, Austin, for inviting me here - I probably would still be on my SU break, if that hadn't happened. I started planning Navaho Springs after I finished Rocane last september, but then I paused until recently, when you guys' comments on my Rocane thread got me inspired again.

This thread is about Navaho Springs, a medium sized (about half a million people) city in southern Arizona. I'm gonna show how Navaho Springs looks today, so this isn't going to be a timeline presentation (don't have that much time for SU anymore). Updates will probably be pretty slow - hopefully once a week, but I can't guarantee that.

Here's the first shot - a preview, if you will. It shows the Burgundy Hotel at the northwest corner of Main Street and Russell Street. The building was originally built for VanAlen Banking Corporation in 1914, making it the oldest highrise in the city. VanAlen Corp. moved to a new building in 1974, and this building was converted to a luxury hotel. Today it is the number one hotel in Navaho Springs.

The trees lining the street are smart trees from the 3d Warehouse by AngryKangaroo.

Woah!! Amazing!! I can't wait to see more! I agree, I could've mistaken that for a photo.

Just wow!

Great start, the texture on the underside of the roof is very nice, and renders look so much nicer than SU!

Looks great but Rocane is awesome right now. Why stop? You can eventually work on Rocane too.

That is 100% correct! Rocane is finished all the way to 2020. All I have to do is make up stories and photoshop those shots.

*Blown against the wall*

Seriously!!? I didn't know that! That is so awesome!!! I was afraid you'd pull a BoiseAirport and lose inspiration halfway through, but if you have it fully complete, jeezum, that's awesome!

Haha He's probably the first member ever to finish a city.

We all "improve" them and move on to the next...

Actually I finished Rocane before I became a member, so I guess it doesn't count. If I had joined before it was finished, it probably would not have been finished.

Here's another building. The VanAlen Building was completed in 1974 as new regional headquarters for VanAlen banking corporation. The tower houses their offices, while there's a shopping center in the two story base.

The VanAlen Building looking from the small park behind the Burgundy Hotel. Notice on the left the atrium added to the hotel in the late 70's renovation.

It's hard for me to say anything that hasn't already been said, but I feel like something should be as you are continuously putting forth better and better work. I really can't wait to see what this city will become.

Will this city have major skyscrapers or will it just be a city with a small downtown?

Looks awesome btw. VanAlen looks very 70's-ish.

Downtown will be pretty small, no major skyscrapers. The tallest occupied building will be just over 100 meters tall. The new tallest will be under construction and I think it has reached its max. height, which is approx. 150 meters, but it won't be fully clad. But these are just plans...
