What's there to like?

Look, I get it. You live in Canada, and are appalled at the notion that someone isn't blown away by your national icon.

It's not even technically a building. I'm not impressed by a tall pole with an observation deck and an uninspiring design.

It's 44 years old and it still looks futuristic (especially at night), at its base it's wider than most big office towers, so it's far from looking like a "pole", and it's still taller than any building in NYC or anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. IMO, it just looks better than most other tall TV/observation towers around the world.

Wait, did you actually just attempt to compare something in Toronto's skyline - that's not even a building - to something in NYC's?

Here's a more accurate point of reference for the CN pole:

About right on target.

The CN Tower is a sleek, graceful, soaring minaret of buzz, and the best tower of its type. That's the objective truth and now we can move on.

I love Toronto, but I think of all the major observation towers, the CN Tower is pretty bland. I think Toronto could have done so much better with the design to really make their skyline pop, but that is just my opinion. Hey it could be worse, it could be the Tower of Americans, San Antonio or Sunsphere, Knoxville. I would take Toronto's downtown any day over the city where I currently live.

To me these Observation/Communication Towers are the most beautiful of the ones I have visited:
- Sky Tree, Tokyo
- Tokyo Tower, Tokyo
- Space Needle, Seattle
- Berlin TV Tower, Berlin
- Eiffel Tower, Paris
- Oriental Pear Tower, Shanghai
- Canton Tower, Guangzhou

Defense of the CN Tower is the most Canadian thing in this forum.

Alan Thicke defending CN Tower while eating Timmies would be the most Canadian thing ever.

I am not known for being a Toronto booster or even a rah-rah-rah Canadian, but I think the CN Tower looks pretty good in the skyline and from various vantage points in Toronto and area.

Back to my usual self... on a broader level I don't think Toronto has much pedigree (in the sense that were are discussing it here) - if any even.
