Looks like he hit his head a little too hard when he took that tumble on the ice a few years ago.

I'll never understand this anti mask shit.

I'm relatively for people making their own choices and decisions when it comes to covid. But sweet fuck talk about something that runs contrary to the notion that we shouldn't be dealing with unnecessary burdens.

Masks = less bullshit measures being forced upon us by the government.

I'm pretty big on the idea of having arenas open with half capacity seating/barriers everywhere/ with no drinks etc being served.

But guys like that make this shit impossible.

NHL & NHLPA have completed discussing CBA financials. Some logistics still to be sorted but looks like league will be starting January 13 with a 56-game season.

Completed? That is a gross misstatement.

I'm very surprised. The NBA just took out a private placement for ~$900 million to cover expected operating losses this year. How does Melnyk for example, who has struggled to cover expenses during normal years, expect to operate for a 56-game season?

Jeremy Jacobs is reportedly saying that the owners didn't have enough time to review the CBA before it was put to vote. As if any of these multi, multi-millionaires/billionaires are signing anything before their lawyers tear through it.

There's going to be a lot of hurt this year, still very skeptical of things going through.

Emily Kaplan from ESPN reported the NHL was looking at something in the order of $30M for each franchise. Where that money is coming from is anyone's guess. Maybe flipping SEA franchise fee for some commercial paper?

If there's no further dialogue to be done on this subject, and they are no longer negotiating, and are moving on to votes which are expected to be approved by the BoG, then...

The NBA just simply took out a loan with low interest. The NHL can do the same.

They already have a $2B line of credit. Taking more is a bit reckless given the state of the league's finances.

Yep, but the alternative is no season at all, which IMO would put the product at greater short-term risk. NBA league revenue, under normal circumstances, is north of $8B, so if the league is able to operate under normal circumstances beyond 2021 then it should be able to take on that debt with interest. More detail:

https://kslsports.com/448087/report-...cial-security/

The NBA is going to extraordinary lengths to ensure the financial health of its 30 teams. According to a report from the Sports Business Journal, the NBA will split a $900 million loan among the franchises in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money was gathered from the private placement market, which includes a collection of insurance companies and institutional investors.

The loans are for three and four years according to SBJ and will be paid back with interest. Each team will receive $30 million in aid for the season.

I was talking about the NHL; its not even close to being in the same situation. It's apples and oranges. The NBA can survive indefinitely without fans.

In fact, several NHL teams regularly access the NHL's revolver to bridge operations until revenue starts.

New season a bit more than a month away. Time for a new thread!

Canucks are the team to beat in the Canadian Division. Who might challenge them?

Canucks had the best playoff run but also lost of slew of good players to immediate rivals.

Ya underwriting the NBA loan is easy, backed by an amazing tv contract easily paid back by 1-2 years of normal operations. The NHL is comparatively a black hole. At the same time, being the only sport to not resume in some form would set everything back years.

^ The NHL has survived that sort of situation before, think of the 04-05 season lost to a labour dispute, along with several seasons that have been shortened for the same reason.

Alright, wacko conspiracy theory time:

I'm tired of Bettman and the governors being in Wayne's back pocket and putting every obstacle imaginable in front of Ovechkin breaking the all-time goal-scoring record.

Discuss.

C’mon now. Picking the Canucks to win the division isn’t all that outrageous. It’s really anybody’s guess.
