Thanks for the info. I don't often see Tennessee plates.

That is actually an Alabama plate. I guess they just bought their car in Tennessee. The TN plate is just a simple dark blue plate with white lettering.

Anyway, this thread is amazing, and it makes me incredibly hungry while also filling me with a strong desire to book another trip to LA. Thanks sopas ej!

Alabama? What an Ala-bummer!

Random photos, taken Sunday, 3.26.2023.

We made Sunday a museum day. That being said, I often go crazy with the pics at museums. So, I tried to restrain myself in choosing which ones to post...

A beautiful day at the UCLA campus...

Some of the dorms in the distance there. The dorms and dining halls will serve as the Olympic Athletes Village for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The magnolias are starting to bloom.

We've always loved the Fowler.

We looked at some Tingatinga art.

Catherine Flon is celebrated as the seamstress who sewed the first Haitian flag of independence; she is regarded as a symbol of the Haitian revolution and a patriot.

Jain art. Hehe this is what initially brought us here, and it was one of the smaller exhibits.

Then it was off to another UCLA-affiliated museum, the Hammer Museum, which is not on the UCLA campus.

No, the Hammer Museum is not a museum that displays hammers; it was founded by entrepreneur-industrialist Armand Hammer.

This temporary installation is by artist Chiharu Shiota, called "The Network." It graces the lobby and entrance stairway.

We've been going to the Hammer for many years now, and we've seen its evolution, starting from the late 1990s. You used to enter it from the office building lobby, that's how I remember it from when we first started going to it. Last year, we noticed that it looked blocked off, and yeah, I had read how they were remodeling it. Yesterday was actually the first day it opened to the public after the remodel; the day before, it was only open to the press and I think they had like a little gala celebration or something. Once the Metro D/Purple Line subway extension fully opens, it'll be a convenient way to get to the Hammer.

The Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer is pretty cool too, we've been there for various film screenings.

Your pics & thread in the compilation pg about how LA ranked in where ppl would like to move to have made me look more closely at what LA is all about. I read over a yr ago about the Hammer being remodeled, but your photos encouraged me to look more closely at the proj, such as sites like this....

A few random photos, taken today (Thursday, 3.30.2023). Tag along with my partner and me to dinner and a dive bar! It's "Friday Eve" after all!

Left to right: Roasted poblano and guacamole taco; grilled cactus and pico de gallo taco; crispy taco with potato, cabbage, pico de gallo and Cotija cheese.

Guacamole.

Agave wine margarita.

I don't know whose Emmy this was, displayed at this dive bar. And I don't know what they won it for. I didn't ask.

I haven't had a rum and Coke in a very long time.

^Come on now... whiskey and ginger ale is the well drink of choice. Especially when the ginger ale is actually a mix of coke and sprite because they don't have ginger ale

Hehe I prefer rum to whiskey, though I do enjoy an occasional whiskey drink.

Though that rum and Coke I had left me kind of "meh." I should've asked for a Cuba Libre instead.

Took random photos today (Sunday, 4.9.2023) at the Los Angeles Wat Thai (Thai Buddhist Temple). They held a Songkran Festival all weekend, which is the Thai New Year. And the popular food court at Wat Thai is back in full effect; it had been closed during much of the pandemic.

So, Happy Songkran! สุขสันต์วันสงกรานต์! (Sook san wan song kran!)

We went inside the temple, so of course you have to take your shoes off. I wish I had worn slip-ons; that's what my partner did, but his shoes are out of frame. Mine are the brown ones with the laces. His shadow on the right, mine in the middle.

Love me some sweet sticky rice and mango, panang curry beef with coconut milk and Thai iced tea. At one time I was buying the drink so much that it was getting expensive so I decided toI go over to a market in Thai-town and purchas the tea leaf and make it at home myself. I even made the sticky rice sometimes, but that coconut milk made it so fattening I had to cut way back on eating it as much.

Oh yes, all of that stuff is so tasty. But I only have Thai iced tea once in a while, because it does have a lot of sugar and calories.

The Greystone Mansion and grounds. I'm sure it's been used in many films, but the one I know for sure was filmed here is "Dead Ringer" with Bette Davis. Sheila E.'s "Sister Fate" music video was also filmed here. We've never been inside the mansion itself; they do tours, but not often. We'd like to see the inside some time.

My partner and I played hooky from work on Friday (5.12.2023) and enjoyed our day together! Mostly food pics.

Peruvian restaurant lunch.

Peruvian tamal.

Tiradito a la crema.

And then we left the SGV and made our way into The Valley, you know, like the OTHER valley, the SFV.

My partner said "What are THOSE?" I said "Well, I assume they're some kind of boxing paraphernalia." They do kinda look like giant butt plugs or something.

We had dinner here. Pretty good place.

This was complimentary. We were told to eat it all in one bite. The combo of olive, anchovy and chili pepper makes for a great burst of flavor.

Bread and nori butter.

Cheese plate.

Tuna pâté.

Albóndigas.

The social, cultural nature of LA/socal is interesting, including the way that ppl have lived in it through the decades & the type of devlpt that has been aimed at them. Among cities throughout the US & world, LA in general can be described as sui generis, its own animal.

This place is right around the corner from where I live. Spectrum news did a really good review on Gasolina a few years back so my wife wanted to check it out. They have expanded and moved to this location just a couple of blocks from the original one. At the time I believe it was only opened until 2pm, and mostly served breakfast type of food. It was okay IMO, but my wife liked it more than me and she would often pick up an order to go. I just thought it was a little over priced for what you get, but that seems to be the case for most trendy places in Woodland Hills.

Although I will say the bread and butter platter looks delicious, for some odd reason I also looked at the butter and thought of molded cheese, but still I would love to try this as I a sucker for bread, thankfully I have more self control as I’ve gotten older and rarely eat bread. Nice photos as usual, thanks for sharing.
