Great shots as usual.
Is summer that bad? Unbearable?

Summers in Miami are extremely hot, but its not the "hotness" that gets to you, because If it was just the heat, I would not even be able to withstand Chicago's yearly heat waves reaching the upper 90's and 100's. Its the humidity, its just so annoying and depressing.

And it's not the heat itself, not the individual days at least. There's nothing truly unbearable about a summer day. It's not like Arizona hot. Nobody dies from it at least. The humidity is ceratianly a factor. Nothing like getting dressed up for a night out and being drenched in sweat within 15 minutes. You learn to deal with it though.

The unbearableness of it is just the length of the season. Much like a Chicago winter I'd imagine. It's not so bad at first but by the time August rolls around, you're pretty much ready for Winter to come back.

Being a native Floridian, a Chicago winter would kill me, but I thank God for every cold front strong enough to make it this far south. I enjoy not having to run the air conditioner for the few weeks I'm able to and I never turn on the heat. Here in the winter, I just put on some coffee, sweat pants, gym socks, and a robe, and I'm just fine!

Miami is in DIRE need of a supertall around 1,110 feet tall right next to the Four Seasons. If ever a city needed a supertall it's Miami.

I agree, and at least two are approved for when the market turns around. I'd put another supertall project right here on the Villa Magna site. Maybe we can talk Tibor into building one supertall mixed-use project rather than two smaller residential towers.

We can't do 1,110 feet tall because there is a heigh limit because of the proximity of MIA. Right now, the limit is 1,010 feet.

From wirednewyork.com :
Bayfront Plaza redesign completes

Terra Architecture has announced the completion of its redesign of One Bayfront Plaza, a US1.8 billion dollars landmark project set to redefine the skyline of Miami. Terra Architecture initially won the competition to design what will be Miami’s tallest building in 2006 and has been developing the design of this mixed use project since. An extensive redesign of the project which began last Autumn has just completed with the project now composed of a single 1,010 ft tall iconic tower with unparalleled views of Biscayne Bay.

One Bayfront Plaza is located at the heart of Downtown Miami, encompassing 2 city blocks. The project totals approximately 4 million sq ft, with 1.3 million sq ft of signature Class A office space, an 850 room hotel, 150,000 sq ft of retail area and one of the highest observation decks in the country, all located in the mixed use, 80 storey tower. The project is being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

The 850 key, world class, full service hotel, will be supplemented by 120,000 sq ft of banquet and exhibition space to serve significant conventions and meetings as well as the needs of the office and retail components.

The retail component fills the first three floors and will create a parallel destination for the 12 million annual visitors to Bayside Marketplace as well as for the more than 4 million annual cruise ship passengers.

The development schedule remains on track for groundbreaking in 2011 and the completion of the project in 2015.

Played on those rooftop soccer fields last week. Fun.

I heard that the ICON/Viceroy development is basically empty.

I was just down there a couple of days ago...holy crap has the city of Miami Vice changed. The first time I've been down there in 10 years. Sunny Isles to the north is also jaw dropping amazing along with the towering Diplomat in Hollywood up along A1A Ocean Drive.

Does anyone know what the name of this building on the left? when was this built? I believe the lot below use to be a strip mall put up during the early 90's.

Roy, that building is called 50 Biscayne. It was built in 2007. Prior to that the site did in fact hold a failed shopping center.
