Nothing can be more important than having eyes on that street whether its drivers or people. As is its nothing more than a wasteland and creating a disincentive to developers. I would be bet he hotel owner would like the road open with meters out front. Staying there hemmed in is going to be a bitch for tourists staying there and locals going for a meeting, drinks or dinner.

A few more cars on what they hope to be a more pedestrian focussed street won't solve the issues of very few residents. THAT is the key here, not a right turn being reopened.

The word obtuse comes to mind ...

Seriously, you have a developer who's built a beautiful hotel that people can't get to and you won't even try??????

It's a downtown hotel. If people can get to it by bike, foot, and transit, that's good enough for me.

That is ridiculous.
The vast majority of people come to a hotel in a car. Hotels should be easily accessible to every form of transportation, unless we are looking to make them unviable.

One certainly can walk or bike, if one has little or no luggage.

Yet, the words hotel and luggage usually do go together.

'sides, exactly where is it on that stretch of road that pedestrians are flocking to?

Hopefully in the fullness of time, yes, there will be lots of such places, but it hurts no one until then to open it back up.

I can agree with the majority that maintaining at least some access off jasper ave by car would be a big asset for the hotel, especially now while the neighbourhood is iffy and the LRT is just a construction site.

Unfortunately it's not an easy option at this point. It's not just the bollards blocking off Jasper Ave, the whole streetscape isn't built for it. there are sections that are one way for cars with a counter-flow bike lane, with the lane marked with pavers in the street. The space between curbs isn't wide enough for two traffic lanes.

If it weren't for the LRT construction my inclination would be, well, how hard is it for a cab to go around the block? 96 STREET still functions as a STREET, and provides access to properties including the Hotel. In the mean time, though, maybe some car access to Jasper Ave, and some wrong-way accommodation to cars (let them come as long as they yield to traffic coming the right way?) might be the answer.

A sidenote to the park, but awesome and hopefully a permanent feature to follow.

This area will take years before anything happens. Too much land further west open for development that will make a better return for an investor. Less risk and higher returns and units will sell for more.

Why build on 95 street vs 106 Street?

Both are to have parks (well 106 has one in the works).
106 Street is closer to the arena and ice district which is where the expected night life and significant retail.
106 is closer to office buildings most of downtown office buildings.
106 is closer to the ledge grounds.
106 is closer to the post secondary institutions.
106 is closer to grocery stores and cafes.
Finally 106 is closer to more mass transit (new line is on both but 106 also has corona station).
In other words 106 Street has so much more going for it right vs 95 Street now and it hasn't taken off yet. Once more development happens there the quarters will continue to languish. Hate to say it but that's how I see it.

Opportunity cost is a challenge, that said, I see a few developments forthcoming.

Great, nearly done from the looks of it (dropped by today). Large area of grass in an amphitheatre type setting, concrete bench structures and some nice wooden boardwalk as well. There are some rubberized 'humps' that look to be like a children's play area, like at the McKay Ave playground.

it’s no wonder there’s no-one around, it’s downtown. downtown being defined as “you can’t get there from here”.

Probably because the park is not even open yet. It was still fenced off when I walked by a couple of days ago.
