i get so excited every time this thread gets bumped thinking the city of edmonton is finally going to find its way!!! and then i get brought back to earth remembering that it's not about that at all, it's just about some signage.

I wondered about the lettering as well. WTF? I can see using Mandarin Chinese as a second language for tourists - but Arabic?

Proper branding with a distinctive logo would go a long way to improving way finding. That pathetic symbol is neither eye catching or informative.

i might be wrong - it does happen - but i think one of them is a "left-over" pilot/demonstration sign although why it wouldn't have been removed when the permanent one went up is a strange bit of non-coordination.

The one on the right is a 'temporary' (3yrs) version.

One thing that I have noticed is that many of the 'temporary' ones are still up, even if just a pole, with the news ones looking great, but more than a few tight to benches or garbages.

Noticing them on my lunch walks. They are very visible and appear easy to use.
Add the valley ones to this and you should have no issues getting around.

Sad. You would think given what they are and where located the decision on purchase would include a test to assess withstanding vandalism. That is why samples are often asked for ...
