Sketch I made of Chicago in 2020 vs 2035ish. I included some of the more rudimentary proposals/concepts:

450 N LaSalle peeking out from The Laurel Room. Excellent rooftop bar. And great food.

*Sorry for pole.

Just wanted to let you guys know that NY YIMBY is expanding to include Chicago YIMBY, so daily updates such as permits, high rise info, developer updates, analysis of projects, interviews with developers, and renderings.

If anybody is interested in being a writer for YIMBY OR Even a contributing Photographer (a member from Chicago or near Chicago), let me know.

I know this is slightly off topic, but it could be another good source of information for Chicago with respect to projects, and given that we have a good Chicago base on SSP, I figured I could pass along a referall/recommendation to the YIMBY owner if anybody is interested.

Just PM me if folks are interested.

Its not up and running at the moment, but will be in the future.

More than a passing resemblance - could almost be the same beams. (great find)

The "O'Brien's Hotel" in Old Town is back with a new zoning application for 1520-32 N Wells:
https://chicago.legistar.com/Legisla...vanced&Search=

Plan is for 151 feet and 203 keys with 47 parking spaces. There's also now plans to build 3 SFH on Wieland behind this part of the same development.

The site was knocked down and has been a surface lot for a few years now:

ALSO the building U/C currently at Chicago & Wells is now proposing an amendment to add a 44 room hotel component:

^ Interesting.....and out of the blue.

Why suddenly are these hotels proposed despite the state of the market?

They must be reading this forum and the thread I started about now being a great time to start a new project.

My thought on hotels: perhaps 20-30% of them will shutter for good over the next year, and when demand rebounds (even if that demand doesn’t rebound fully), new hotels on the market that just wrapped up construction will be in a stronger position.

Some of them may be betting that once the pandemic and the associated economic downturn are completely over in a couple years, people who love to travel will travel with a vengeance to make up for all those canceled vacations. I know I will.

Is this the site directly adjacent to the brown line stop (site of former Walmart Express)? If so I didn't know that was already under construction--that's awesome.

That's the site - it was cleared a few weeks ago. Haven't checked it since, I just assumed it would be vacant for a while.

No, you're thinking of Chicago and Franklin. This is the AMLI microapartments going up at 808 Wells, which is already about 4 floors above ground.

Bummer - yes looked at the link - the hotel rooms are for AMLI-808.

Will this be replacing some of the units or will we hopefully see a bump in height? I know a lot of people didn't like the original 808 design but I preferred the hight and weird idea of a giant slanted roof instead of the more developer brick building we're getting.

From what I can tell...it's add on. There's 318 units still but the height is going from 210 feet to 225 feet...

Crain;s jumped on it: Developer seeks hotel use for River North apartment project

Sounds like it's going to be 44 units of "short term rentals" instead of a traditional hotel.

^ Yeah that was my suspicion. Both traditional hotels and STRs are getting hammered right now but AMLI may be making a bet that STRs will come back sooner.
