However, once you go out the front door of the building, Downtown Tampa is still pretty empty of urban life. I know it is coming, but not much there yet.
I know exactly what you mean. There's a couple blocks of buildings and thats about it. The rest is like where Seinfeld sent his parents, Del Boca Vista.

Here a nice interactive map. I having a hard time finding any construction pics online. I guess I'm going to have to take some more excursions for a "jobsite meeting".

Unknown Building - I'll try to find something on it. Though it was interesting though.
Isn't this the University of Tampa?

There isn't a whole lot of construction going on in Tampa. After they finished Element everything just stopped. Even the latest boom over here in St. Pete has "petered" out (pun intended). Once Ovation is done (and its already topped out), I don't think there's going to be anything else going on any time soon...

It was originally the big hotel Plant built when he brought the railroad to Tampa. It's similar to what Flagler did in St. Augustine, Palm Beach and Miami.

Rendering for 211 Meridian in Tampa. It was included along with an article about density bonuses in Austin. This is a nice looking tower.

Does anyone know what is going to be built on the lot at Scott St. and Orange St downtown? This is right at the entrance ramps to 275. I think there was a jail there because there was a wall with razor wire on top like a prison. The whole lot is now taken down to bare soil.

Beautiful Pictures

Wow these are some beautiful projects that are underway. Personally I hope if any of these projects go through to completion it is the trump tower. That would really be a nice building. I also know that anything donald trump puts his name on is of incredibly high quality.

The sage condos are also very high tech and modern looking. Definite thumbs up to the designer who put those together.

Higher-end rental complexes planned in Hyde Park, Clearwater

Quote:
TAMPA - Another apartment developer will test the Tampa area's appetite for $1,000-and-up rentals by planning a 259-unit apartment complex for Tampa's Hyde Park area and a 240-unit complex for Clearwater.

If they are built, Alliance Residential Company's two projects, Broadstone Hyde Park and Broadstone Clearwater, would join a remarkable resurgence in apartment construction that could bring more than 6,000 rental units to Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

On the Tampa side of the bay, Alliance Residential has filed for a building permit for a five-story, urban infill complex at Cleveland Street and Rome Avenue. Several industrial buildings sit on the 3-acre property now, most of which appear vacant, except for one building housing Southern Equipment Corp.

Alliance Residential envisions two adjoining apartment buildings and a parking garage, with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units starting at $1,100 for a 550-square-foot unit and running to just shy of $2,500 a month for 1,600 square feet. Residents will share a clubhouse, resort-style pool and a Wi-Fi cafe, Alliance Residential managing director John Zeledon said.

Four hotel projects planned for downtown Tampa

Quote:
[...]

Fresh off a recession, developers are eager to build and city officials are eager for them to create jobs. Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn engineered a deal to lease the old courthouse on Florida Avenue to a Memphis, Tenn.-based hotel developer, Development Services Group.

It plans a luxury hotel under the Le Meridien flag, a small brand connected to the giant hotelier Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. Gary Prosterman, chief executive of Development Services Group, plans to transform the courthouse judges' chambers, courtrooms and hallways into 110 hotel rooms, each with 13-foot ceilings and huge windows.

The Le Meridien will try to win its share of business travelers, but also wants to tap into the artsy types who might want to stay in a historical courthouse and see a show at the Straz Center nearby, Prosterman said.

[...]

A little farther to the south, the developer Trammell Crow Co. has announced a major office tower/hotel complex on land along Morgan Street, near the University of South Florida's new Center for Advance Medical Learning and Simulation. Bob Abberger, Trammell Crow's managing director in Tampa, couldn't be reached for an update. In the past he has said he wants to build a 350-room hotel.

And lastly, the company that purchased the riverfront land that once was designated as Trump Tower Tampa plans a mixed-use project including a hotel. Bob Owens, CEO and president of O,R&L Facility Services, said his firm recently issued a request for proposals on the project, seeking an architecture firm. He wasn't ready to speak further about it last week.

Jeff Vinik, partners file details for 400-room hotel near the Tampa Bay Times Forum

Quote:
TAMPA — Jeff Vinik may be ready to start building.

The Tampa Bay Lightning owner and his partners filed a rezoning application Thursday with the city of Tampa to build a mixed-use building on the 2.8 acre parking lot he owns at 613 S Morgan St. next to the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The lot is at the corner of S Florida Avenue and Old Water Street, near the Tampa Marriott Waterside.

Vinik wants to build a 400-room hotel on the property that will also have 50 residential units, up to 175,000 square feet of meeting space and 45,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, according to the documents.

The new building's height will be capped at 325 feet, and it will have 273 parking spaces.

A company called Strategic Property Partners LLC filed for the application. But there doesn't appear to be a name for the project yet, nor was there any indication that a hotel chain had signed on.

Residences at the Riverwalk

Quote:
Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced today that the Intown/Framework Group, LLC will invest $85 million to create a new high-rise, 350-unit residential complex in downtown Tampa. The parcel of land is currently the right-of-way between Cass and Tyler streets, and as part of the development, the City of Tampa will sell that land and reconfigure the streets, allowing both to become two-way.

The project includes 350 residential units and approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of retail space on the ground floor in a high rise construction of 36 stories. InTown/Framework will purchase the land, currently part of the right-of-way between Tyler and Cass streets, for $4 million from the City of Tampa. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2014.

Peak 10, Begins Construction On Data Center Campus In Tampa, Florida

Quote:
National IT infrastructure and cloud services provider, Peak 10, Inc., started construction on its new 60,000-square-foot data center facility in Tampa, Florida, representing the company's first facility designed and constructed completely from the ground up.

According to the firm its new facility, located on Parkedge Drive in the University of South Florida area, will support Tampa's budding economic development and enable more businesses to benefit from Peak 10's secure, tailored cloud and data center services. The new facility will bring Peak 10's entire Tampa footprint to more than 129,000 square feet with three separate facilities, and Peak 10's total Florida footprint to roughly 230,000 square feet.

"Supporting our mission to continue expanding our robust national presence, we are excited to see the construction of our newest generation of data centers underway," said David Jones, President/CEO of Peak 10. "This facility will meet hurricane weather ratings for the Tampa region, making this a very sound facility for the IT business community. Adding a new facility across town from our existing Tampa data centers provides additional redundancy, and is connected via Peak 10's reliable network to our nine other major metropolitan locations."

Enabling Peak 10's Tampa presence to serve up to 600 more customers once complete, the facility will sit on 6.88 acres in Hidden River Corporate Park, offering 23,600 square feet of office and support space, and 36,400 square feet of datacenter space. The project will be built out into three separate data centers over time with the first data center expected to open in early 2015. Phases two and three will be built out over a five-year period.

Channel District could add 23-story apartment tower

The Tampa City Council has approves rezoning for another 20+ story residential tower in Channelside. Work could start this fall. ARTISTS RENDERING, THE NOVARE GROUP

Quote:
Tampa could add another residential high-rise to its skyline next year if the Tampa City Council gives final approval to plans for a tower proposed for the heart of the Channel District.

The new project, SkyHouse Channelside, will stand in the center of the rapidly evolving Channel District area east of downtown. It's the second tower the city council has approve in two months for the district.

The developers say they could break ground on Tampa's SkyHouse in September and finish it a year later.

SkyHouse will have 320 apartments - about 25 percent less than council originally approved - with gym, pool and patio on the top floor.
