Charlotte is definitely ahead of the curve in terms of downtown development per-capita, major design points as well, keep it up.

^ Thanks to the finance industry I guess. Grateful to the bland banking culture for the plentiful plazas and pedestrian bridges and those architectural aspects became a norm.

The signature plaza of @AllyCLTCenter is beginning to take shape at Stonewall & Tryon.

This circle is the beginning of what will be the base for a mature Live Oak being transplanted from the coast. The tree will be surrounded by hardscaping & stairs that cascade to the corner.

Eliminating I-277, a "Central Park" for Charlotte, Tryon Street reimagined to focus on pedestrians, the era of the car being "over" - the new Center City Vision Plan for Charlotte in 2040 is shaping up with ambitious ideas. Will the come to pass? https://ui.uncc.edu/story/charlotte-...town-2040-plan

Centene is creating 3200+ jobs and building a $1 billion campus at the Research Park including a tech center. Looks like it will be close to the Electrolux campus.

Insurance is to U-City like banking is to uptown? They can poach employees from their competitors I guess.

Quote:

The company will build a 1 million square foot regional headquarters, focusing on information technology, state officials said. Centene also secured an additional 50 acres on top of the initial 80 acres, for room to grow.

The campus will have six buildings, including an early childhood development center and a training center, as well as walking trails and water features, Neidorff said.

Latest Elevations of @ChildressKlein #CharlotteMetroTower under construction on Tryon btwn @HBGanttCenter & the Green. 41 floors, 606' tall. Shorter, but still pretty cool looking, definitely has gone through some value engineering. Still excited to watch join the ranks.

For the first time, the Excelsior Club developer detailed his plans for the landmark in Charlotte's Black community, which involve reopening it as a music venue and building a '50s-style hotel next door to honor the Green Book. Read more in my interview:

Big changes are coming to Plaza Midwood. In addition to the Peculiar Rabbit site, a homebuilder is under contract to purchase the site of Jackalope Jacks, Smooth Monkey and the Rabbit Hole, and plans to build condos or apartments.

You can do anything in a pipe dream, including canoeing in a man-made pond with rushing water! But, if you capsize, even your mother won't recognize your mugshot when you're pulled from the muck.

To your comment and the one that followed. This is a very ambitious "what if" type rendering. Norfolk Southern owns the land and likely won't ever give it up. These renderings are great but likely to never be acted upon.

Personally there is another concept for the 220 acres that includes a park but is a densely populated neighborhood that I am a bigger fan of.

https://ui.uncc.edu/display/charlott...p-old-railyard

Both though are missing the pigs flying in their renderings

NEW: Pending regulatory approval, there will officially and finally be a medical school in Charlotte. The new Wake Forest School of Medicine campus in Charlotte is part of a strategic combination between Atrium Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem @wsoctv

The Levine Museum is rethinking its programming, which has led it to consider what to do with its real estate uptown. The museum's CEO told me sale or redevelopment are on the table — which would add to a slew of changes in the Northern part of uptown.

Seventh and Tryon is an ambitious Uptown project that recently took a big step forward. When construction wraps up in 2024, it will have restaurants, shops, a 25-30-story tower, residences, a walkable plaza, sidewalk cafes, parking, and a new main library.
