Yeah, there have been rumors about the rendering initially in a full page add in the PGA Wachovia Championship brochure, with the website www.trumpcharlotte.com going live sometime early this morning. Another interesting thing is when I first looked at the website this morning, I remember seeing in the 2nd rendering, a distinctive silhouette of the Westin to the right of the towers. Now the image has been changed. Could this be because of a relocation of were the project will be built?

Wow, thats actually kind of sweet. Looks easily a 1000'er without that spire. It looks a little bit like the "filler" buildings that were in Libeskind's WTC plan, but they look more well thought out and I am digging the expressed structural diagrid.. they would probably look somewhat refreshing in Charlotte.

The Trump buildings look like they were designed by Sir Richard Rogers, does anyone know if this is so?

Thumbs up

Several parcels of land uptown, which are being freed up by rerouting I-277 ramps, have been sold by the city. Development plans include a hotel and mixed use projects. Here is a video promoting the parcels of land, and include not only great renderings of the Charlotte skyline of the near future, but an idea of what might be done with these parcels of land. Well worth watching:

5/2/08 - Big construction update

----------------------------------------------

17 floor Ritz-Carlton hotel and 32 floor Bank of America tower:

The Ritz-Carlton has shot skyward but the BofA tower is still below street level.

Looking at the BofA hole in the ground:

View from above:

Still hauling a lot of rock out of the hole:

View of the Ritz from the opposite side.

I can't recall ever seeing so may cranes downtown.

The Vue condos, 50 floors:

The have been working nonstop on the foundation at least since February. It looks like they are still pouring the massive caissons that will support the 50 floor tower.

There is a steady stream of cement trucks rumbling into the site.

Novare's 27 floor Catalyst condos and 17 floor office building

The Catalyst has been going up at a blistering pace.

Site prep for the 17 floor office tower portion of the project. The concrete structure on the left is the parking deck under construction for the project. There is a proposal for a 39 floor Twelve hotel and condo tower to be built to the left of Catalyst.

Roughly the same view in this rendering if you take a few steps back. Office tower in front, Catalyst on the right, Twelve on the left:

Wachovia 48 floor office tower & 42 floor condo tower, Mint Museum, Bechtler Art Museum, African American Cultural Center, and 1,200 seat theater.

What it looks like now:

What it will look like in 2010. The cantilevered building in the foreground is the Bechtler Art Museum. The tan building this side of the Wachovia tower is the Mint Museum.

The elongated African American Cultural Center. Below it is underground access to the 7 floors of parking beneath the Wachovia tower.

A first look at what the tower's cladding will look like!

The one panel is just very dirty.

Around on the other side of the project, I beleive the concrete structure on the left (which is behind the Bechtler Art Museum) is the back of the theater. The condo tower portion of the project will be just to the right of this. I feel like I'm in the middle of Dubai or something with all this construction going on. The Novare towers are under construction just behind my left shoulder.

Looking at the backside of Bechtler.

14 floor Aloft Hotel

Part of the Epicenter / 210 Trade development. A permit issue has held up the 53 floor 210 Trade portion of the project. The issue came from the fact there are several parties working together on this large mixed use project, and things had to get sorted out such as if a water pipe burst, which party is responsible for what section, etc. Hopefully we'll see that portion go vertical soon.

This time no photos of the ~19 floor NASCAR tower and Hall of Fame, 13 floor Royal Court, or 11 floor Garrison Lofts. Maybe next time.

For more photos of Charlotte, see my thread http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show....php?p=3527103

Small update - 5/4/08

Few photos of construction. I'm working on a photo rundown of projects and construction in Southend that I'll post later this week.

NASCAR Hall of Fame and tower:

The Tower penthouse condos:

I-277 interchange redevelopment:

The ramps are being redone to free up land. Several parcels have already been sold, and plans include mixed-use and a possible hotel. I wish that had gone ahead and capped this portion of I-277 and made it a park.

In this photo you can see part of the Metropolitan Midtown mixed use project (midrise building on the right). This includes office, residential, restaurants, retail such as Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Staples, and part of the Sugar Creek greenway. http://www.metmidtown.com provides a nice video of the project.

Aloft Hotel / Epicenter:

Wachovia Corporate Center:

Could somebody please fill me on on that tower that appeared in the rendering of Charlotte that looked like it was somewhere from 800 to 1000 feet...

The tallest proposed buildings right now are the Trump towers, with the tallest at around 1,000+ feet and 74 floors. The tallest under construction towers are the Wachovia corporate center at 764 feet and 48 floors, 210 Trade at 600 feet and 50 floors, and The Vue at 50 floors.

New photos from this weekend:

NASCAR office tower / hall of fame:

Cool video, those renderings look really good indeed (Wachovia is going to really stretch the skyline out). BTW, I've been wondering about something as I have read through this and other Charlotte threads. Why is the Charlotte CBD area referred to as "uptown" instead of "downtown"? Does "uptown" include more than the CBD? Just curious about that as I am trying to learn more about your beautiful city.
