Wilmington Riverfront

Potentially beginning of very big news for the Riverfront, as the Riverfront Development Corp. announced they have purchased the Salvation Army and Rehab Center on the "other side" of the Riverfront. This parcel sits right in front of the Christina Landing towers, and will most likely begin the development of the eastern side of the river.

View from the parking garage above, overlooking the Salvation Army complex:

In other Riverfront news...
The restaurant pad between the Iron Hill Brewery and Big Fish will no longer be developed as was planned. The project is essentially dead. The owners of Big Fish started to build a new place to be called Taco Grande, but covid seems to have killed those plans.

However - news of an upscale steakhouse in a new building is in the works:

"Plans are going forward for a high-end steakhouse, market and other venues on a 2½ acre parcel at the Wilmington Riverfront at Beech and Justison streets. More information is coming, possibly by early July, on the mixed-use project, Sugrue said. Stay tuned."

Hilco closes on $225M PES refinery purchase, envisions up to 15 million square feet of new space

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel..._news_headline

Of importance:

The property, having spent generations as a refinery, needs extensive environmental remediation and will take an estimated three to five years to clean up before new development gets underway. Hilco intends to work with Evergreen Resources Group, which oversees the environmental remediation of the former refinery site, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Once completed, Hilco will begin developing the property into what could eventually be 13 million to 15 million square feet of light industrial, warehouse-distribution, last-mile and cold storage space. While Perez didn’t have an exact figure, he said it will mean the eventual investment of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Hilco plans to put in new infrastructure and use existing rail, highway, water and other utilities that are already installed. The company also plans to reposition what is referred to as the Sunoco Schuylkill River tank farm on the site. “That’s a tremendous energy asset for us to maximize,” he said.

Lmao duhhh dude should have known that when there is a well known taco spot a block away, use that parcel and build a night club or mini supermarket to get some life in the area other then restaurants.

Also that's good news for the east side of the riverfront, this definitely means the plans for CHRISTIANA TOWER 2 might still be alive. The new bridge and intersection at the riverfront/13 is basically complete I just drove over it the other day Lmao.

I know the Shop Rite is near the riverfront but they really need a small grocery store or something IN the riverfront to make it a complete neighborhood. I’d think something like a Trader Joe’s would kill it there.

Get ready for some real beefy Philadelphia development news. The George L. Wells Meat Co. building at 918-980 Delaware Ave. traded hands last August for $12.375 million along with the adjacent parcel. Demolition has been underway at the site for the last couple of months with significant progress to date.

Permits were pulled in March for the consolidation of 29-45 W Poplar St. and 918-980 Delaware Ave., creating a 124,937 square foot CMX-3 combined site. The owners are pursuing the construction of 6 buildings on the property consisting of 462 residential units, 6 commercial spaces, 144 car parking spots, and 162 bicycle spaces.

Residents are pissed about the county apporoving a long awaited project by the Christiana Mall.

https://delawarebusinesstimes.com/ne...oving-forward/

Living in the area I can say this will greatly improve the deadzone of the area and also connect the area better when they build the connecting road with the fashion center road, the owner of the mall doesn't want a road to connect with the ring road which I can understand due to traffic it will be overwhelmed, however the mall owner doesn't want a pedestrian walkway either, meaning any and all traffic will have to take the Connector road to the fashion center.

Good project and the county is approving it so the residents willl have to suck it up with their typical excuse of "Traffic" and "Noise"

Literally everyone in that part of Delaware is "new" and at some point wasn't wanted by the already existing residents because of "traffic". These things are comical.

Oh it surely is comical. they rather a dead golf course then new development of anything, also they are upset because of how "High density" the project is.

the r/Delaware reddit is going crazy of course with both sides against it.

These are probably the same people who complain about Wilmington.
