The more I think about it the more I wish they went to at least 1700ft. I love how it looks like a completely different building from the west or east. A instant classic that puts the underwhelming One Vanderbilt to shame.

Not a huge fan of Vanderbilt myself, rank it 7 out of 10. The glass and facade look dated already and not of the highest of quality to begin with. Others said its better than the nearby Chrysler Building which is one of if not the greatest skyscrapers ever made.. just laughed. Crown does look good at night illuminated though.

Gotta give props to JP Morgan for dismantling their old tower of over 200 meters onsite and today almost topping out their new HQ in only five years.

Just one megatall in NYC..... I'll even take a spire. I wish so bad the Burj Khalifa was in NYC. That tower is stunning.

Older view, but I can imagine when this tower is lit, it will be magnificent on the skyline...

As often as I can I look out the window of the fourth floor rehab gym of my residence and each time it astounds me how mammoth this structure is.

That said, I hope to be alive when her now *very* little sisters 245 and 277 get redeveloped and assume forms that complement what’s rising now in pretty much the same way as they did back then.

Especially as regards to 245, whose facade is interesting enough to perhaps emulate in a future build-up of that tower. Btw, 245 is the only one among the three that doesn’t have a base roughly 2.5x larger than the main “shaft”.

So maybe instead of a slow and painful-to-watch dismantling with 270, we might see extra floors added and the shape of the tower maintained along with a semi-wholesale reclad/“skin graft”.

But 270’s new look will win the day as a triumph of subdued class over corporate banality.

JPMorgan Chase’s Headquarters Reaches Third Setback At 270 Park Avenue In Midtown East, Manhattan

Quote:
Construction has reached the third setback on JPMorgan Chase‘s 1,388-foot supertall headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners with Adamsom Associates as the architect of record and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 60-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space with a capacity of 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest structure in New York completely powered by hydroelectric energy. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the full-block property, which is bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

Recent photographs show another handful of floors added to the steel superstructure since our last update in mid-July, when crews were on the precipice of crossing the 984-foot supertall threshold. Now, construction is beginning on the fourth and penultimate tier of the stepped massing. These final two tiers make up the crown, which is shown illuminated at night in the main rendering.

Other team members of the project involved in 270 Park Avenue include JB&B as the MEP engineer; Banker Steel providing the steelwork; NYC Constructors as the steel subcontractor; Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE), which designed the structural foundation elements; Severud Associates as the engineer of record; and New Hudson Façades supplying the curtain wall.

270 Park Avenue is anticipated to be completed sometime in 2025. YIMBY estimates the topping out to occur before the end of this year.

^ Thanks for the link. These sentences answered my recent question about whether the top two segments constitute a crown:

"Now, construction is beginning on the fourth and penultimate tier of the stepped massing. These final two tiers make up the crown, which is shown illuminated at night in the main rendering."

I would call the last segment the “crown”, as itcreally doesn’t have occupied space. Lighting alone doesn’t mean anything. I wouldn’t consider everything lit at the ESB as the crown. But I think it’s clear enough.
