Glad to see you. It must get lonely in the CFL thread.

My buddy spotted plant guy at the parade.

Looks like they're already at least an hour behind.

I'm really hoping that the attention the Raptors bring to basketball will trickle down to the two domestic leagues we have in this country. More Raptors fans is great for the team, but more basketball fans would be great for the sport overall. And who knows, might make a second NBA team more feasible.

I'm assuming you mean a 2nd NBA team in Canada, and not Toronto - right?
A second team in Toronto would be pointless and would fail.
I can definitely see another team in Canada... Vancouver or Montreal.

Not really, considering the CFL thread has lots of posts and views and is new every year unlike this thread. Always find it interesting that some people feel the need to shit on other sports, I've never said anything about the team or basketball here, just some people's over the top posts that invariably poop on other sports in their own community. I find that incroyable!

Basketball really is a global sport.
In a conversation my mother had with my Aunt in Italy, my aunt brought up the win.
She saw it on the news there and in the newspapers. She's 80+ and doesn't watch sports - but it was hard to avoid.

Toronto is considered the most multicultural city in the world, and this win really showcases that.
No doubt other leagues are looking at this as a very attractive attribute for expanding here.

Of course not a second team in Toronto.

I don't think a second hockey team would even work in Toronto, just be like a poor relation after the initial few years.

I thought Friday had a lot of no-shows, it's 3x worse today.
A lot of people showed up, worked for an hour or so - and then left their desks and still aren't back. A total write-off for many companies in the GTHA.

The Raptors just won the phreakin' championship, there are two million phreakin' people lining the parade route in Toronto today, people are a little bit, you know, phreakin' excited...but my apologies if this offends you and we aren't behaving with the level of decorum that you would find acceptable.

If this apology doesn't placate your delicate sensibilities, might I suggest fucking off? That way you could avoid getting splashed on while people are jerking off over their favourite team.

The live shots are insane. Easily 2+ million fans on the streets.

It really is insane.

The Jays had huge parades, but this feels at least 2x larger.
There are people who came in from other parts of the country and even other countries - just for this parade. Holy.

These types of public sports gatherings are way more popular than they used to be. The whole getting together in a public place to watch the big game, mass turnouts for victory parades, that kind of thing. Much bigger than they used to be.

My dime store sociological theory is that with pro sports being less accessible than they used to be, this is how the masses who are into a sport but can't attend the games replace the feeling of being in the arena or stadium. You get to be part of something without having to have an exorbitantly priced ticket.

Hope everyone stays safe out there...

Ya I just got back from university/front and it was insane. I thought the 2 million estimate was a bit aggressive but I might believe it.
