Terwilliger Plaza Parkview Building | xx' | 10 Floors | U/C

Notice of a Pre-Application Conference for the Terwilliger Plaza Parkview Building.

Despite being 10 stories tall, the project won't be subject to design review.

But LRS is the architect. Surely they'll put forward a world class design!

What?? No Design Review of a 10-story building at this prominent location next to Duniway Park with a skybridge over SW 6th Avenue???? If any project should be subject to review by the Design Commission, this would be the one.

It's not within the design overlay so as far as I know all it needs to meet is the zoning code sections for Chapter 33.120 Multi-Dwelling Zones.

Would the skybridge between the new and existing buildings indicated in the notice get any non-structural review given the city's seeming aversion to such structures?

What the hell???? That is where my favorite sushi place is in Portland. Well it is official, Portland is dead!!!

While it will be sad to see my favorite sushi restaurant go, that will be one hell of a building on that site, though it is surprising that it isn't subject to a design review which could end up being really bad.

I can't wait to "indulge my urban independence" at this new project in rural Idaho.

When the presentation is due and you spent all your time rendering the model but forgot to add in the surroundings.

Resident-run SW Portland retirement community plans $100 million expansion

A large not-for-profit retirement community in Southwest Portland plans to build a new 10-story tower on a nearby block.

The expansion would add 127 one- and two-bedroom apartments to Terwilliger Plaza, whose already-sprawling campus houses about 350 seniors. The community said the construction is expected to cost $100 million.

Terwilliger Plaza has started marketing the units to prospective residents, who would have to pay an entrance fee averaging $650,000 and a monthly service fee of $4,000 when they move in, the organization’s chief executive said. The new tower is expected to open in 2022.
...continues at the Oregonian.

This building is definitely looking massive for its location. I don't think that was something I was mentally expecting to see.

From about two months ago, but here’s a link to a video of construction workers installing the sky bridge over 6th Ave.
