I will continue to question the proposed faux food carts in a hotel lobby, but that is just a detail. Looking at the bigger picture, I am very happy to see a proposal for a hotel on less than a quarter block filling up a parking lot. It will no doubt add some energy and human-scaled enclosure to that active downtown intersection.

Innovativethinking: complaining about every proposal because it isn't a supertall skyscraper isn't productive. You can make constructive comments about a project, or choose not to comment at all, but we can't have every thread de-railed because you're unsatisfied with the height of the building.

So with that, I've moved the off topic discussion to a new thread. Feel free to continue the discussion there.

Thanks for sharing these -- while I hate to see the food carts go, this is nice infill. I like the dark color palette, kind of reminds me of Pearl West.

One of Portland’s Most Popular Food Carts Is Closing Tomorrow to Make Way for a Luxury Hotel
Tomorrow is the final day of operation for the original Nong's Khao Man Ghai, which is being evicted to make room for a new luxury hotel.

As first reported by Portland Monthly, tomorrow, Aug. 31, is the final day of operation for the original Nong's Khao Man Ghai, located in the downtown cart pod on Southwest Alder Street between 10th and 11th avenues.

All of the lot's occupants, which also includes dumpling cart the Dump Truck and fusion cart Korean Twist, have been given notice to vacate by Oct. 7 to make way for the Marriott-branded Moxy Hotel.
...continues at the Willamette Week.

I am really liking how this one is shaping up, it will be interesting to see what it looks like once the facade starts going up.

Thanks for the photo updates. I cycled past this this morning, and really like the brickwork.

This really turned into quite an attractive building. Love the brick colors and contrasts.
