Saw a photo on another board (Surly Texas) taken this evening of the Fairmont with “Sark” and a Bevo logo lit up in Burnt Orange covering almost the entire facade.
Pretty cool.
(Sorry, I have no idea who the photographer is)

I still think the way they have the longhorn looks more like a Klingon bird of prey...

I know I'm in the minority here, but I reallllly don't like it when the skyline has UT related lighting/lingo added. I don't understand what that means and it just looks really tacky to me.

As an Aggie fan, I am in complete agreement with you here
That being said, UT is still and will always make up a major cultural part of Austin. I can't deny that a majority of Austin is in love with the Longhorns. In the case of the Fairmont and their ability to use their lighting abilities as a huge billboard, I think, and admire their wanting to fit in with the Austin culture. Hopefully they will use that platform to support the Austin FC. You have to admit, they get everyone's attention. Maybe someday when Texas legalizes weed, they will put a huge lighted leaf on the side of the building.

Hopefully they can do better than this.

No, but it's a possibility.

I saw this in the Austin Business Journal

How Austin hotels weathered 2020: Messages of hope for skyline, new sources of revenue

Quote:
The Fairmont Austin hotel, one of the newest and largest hotels on the list, is a downtown high-rise heavily dependent on convention and tourism business. It put rooms to good use last year, partnering with the community to post giant messages of hope in lights on the exterior of the building. Since the hotel opened in 2018, the illuminations were always intended to celebrate Austin and bring the community together. It became a particular bright spot in 2020, communicating messages of hope and thanks to health care workers.

Hotel representatives pointed out these partnerships were not direct revenue generators but they said the light shows increased visibility, which can increase bookings. Melissa Farrar, director of communications for the Fairmont, said the illuminations on the south-facing facade have been received so well that the hotel may add the same displays on the other side of the building.

I has ask the concierge at the Fairmont Austin on how they do it and they place LED orbs on the windowsill. I had thought by inspecting the top portion of the window there is a slant it being the LED light, but they now wish the building was designed with built-in LED lights. If ever much taller buildings are built next to it may switch to the other side where Palm Park is planned to be redesigned.

Thank you sir. It will for sure. Indeed tower's impact on the skyline is pretty dramatic too.

This is from the opposite side of town, atop the 183/Montopolis bridge. Indeed tower appears to swallow up One American Center
