Looking back... see, this is why we need likes, laughing emojis, and such.

Yep. Of all the tall buildings we have "in the works" this is the one I want the most, and a height bump with no change of design would be even better. Still, I suspect a height bump would chang the geometry of the building, making it seem that a design change had been made. Remember, it was originally supposed to be 542 feet before getting a height bump to 708 feet.

I also really want this one to happen. I like its design as is, but hitting 1000' would be pretty nice also - especially with something that isn't just a box.

They could lease the land and use it for staging the construction of the tunnel. And, if that's the case, The Republic would be delayed for years. Another idea would be to co-op construction - similar to what they've done in other cities where new rail/subways are constructed underneath new towers.
The land is still owned by Travis County, but Lincoln has a ground lease on it. Lincoln is paying a pretty penny for the ground lease over time, so it is in their interest to move forward and earn income on their investment. However, I don't know all the details of the lease. IIRC, the lease rate is fairly nominal initially with steep escalators in following years. There may also be triggers - Lincoln may not have much in the way of lease expense until it is fully permitted or issued a certificate of occupancy. On the other side, there may be a cancellation clause if they do not make progress by a certain date, allowing Travis County to regain control of the property.

It would be a satisfying eventuality if this tower would become office space (HQ?) for TikTok given that the tower roughly resembles a giant metronome sans the pendulum.

^^^Oracle and Walmart are to be minority owners of TikTok. Obviously, Oracle has a large presence in Austin. And, doesn't Walmart have it's tech innovation center (or something like that) HQ'd in Austin?

I doubt TikTok will kick off construction for the Republic. Lincoln Property still has more than a half-million square feet of office space to lease at 6th x Guad before they start a new building. According to sources quoted by the Business Journal, TikTok is looking for between 100,000 to 300,000 square feet of office space in Austin. There are several options for them to move into sooner than a building that hasn't even started construction yet. Indeed Tower, 6th X Guad, The Molar, Parsley Energy Building, Domain Tower 2, that Alpha building at Mueller where the cranes collided, RiverSouth, just to name a few.

Captain kay-booooosh over here!

Prolly right though, but maybe not. I can easily see those buildings filling up quicker with all the 2020 madness and an exodus from the coasts. (I just sold my house to someone from Palo Alto...site....un....seen)

But AusTexDevelopment is probably right. I do remember the main focus is on 6X by the developer. Unless we are pleasantly surprised, we may be waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for my favorite building to break ground. But my gut says it will.
