Not a fan of that render. I thought the red was about the only thing the design had going for it. This is the most boring boutique hotel design I have ever seen.

The view to the north especially from the upper floors would include virtually all of downtown Austin. I bet there are some awesome views up there, but the folks on the lower floors will get to peep into hotel room windows as was pointed out by somebody here. I guess that is some compensation for some of the more twisted Shore residents. Since a hotel was always planned for this site, the buyers of those units knew the score when they purchased the units.

And that's not necessarily a good thing. Other than the name brand on the side, there's really nothing that distinguishes this from any other box tower hotel dt other than its location. It's going to come down to the exterior color and material used for me to like it or meh...

The business journal has a short blurb this morning about Hotel Van Zant breaking ground.

[Borrowed lzppjb's photo link from an earlier post because I couldn't make the link to the ABJ image work, and it's one of those mornings. Thanks lzppjb.]

The crane is going up and can be seen on the Skyhouse webcam. The crane seems taller than it needs to be.

This is about 2 weeks old, but we haven't had an update in a while.

It's above grade now. Although I'm still having a hard time getting excited about this one.

I think this one looks decent for a mid-rise hotel. And Midol24, there is so much development in Austin right now with no bubble in sight. Just enjoy the density.

I still have higher hopes for this than I do for the Homewood Suites hotel. I'm hoping that one doesn't end up like one of those by-the-interstate-hotels.

I gotta say that the W tower, especially the condo portion, keeps growing on me. I was looking at it yesterday from about two blocks away in the bright late afternoon sun and was just struck with how nice looking a building it really is. I think it is easily the best thing built in Austin in the past decade.

yes, definitely. that's what i was implying to covairkeith. its density and although its not going to be the best architecturally these buildings are still good for infill.

Slowly creeping along. Almost unnoticed with all the other projects around downtown.

This view should look quite different in a year or so once Trinity Place and the Waller Center towers are under way.

It is starting to stick up now. It's fairly noticeable from the Congress bridge and from I-35.
