What they should do is retain the front halves of each building and then renovate them into 3 or 4 high end townhomes which is actually closer to their original purpose than the curent strange retail use.

I don’t think retail is a strange use here, I’d just rather not see the facades lost to build a new retail box that could sit vacant. At least the facades are nice to look at.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if this one didn’t happen. I like this stretch of Superior.

I did something similar in the NYC compilation thread.

For Chicago. Data via CTBUH as of 01-04-2020.

Construction/topped out ***Does not include everything, u/c below certain height range

Proposed:

Top 10 Tallest (Chicago seems to be killing it in the sub 300m or 200-270m category).

^^^ Great summary!

Aon confused me for a second until I realized it was just that external elevator and viewing platform haha.

Not sure how specific you're getting with the color coding, but 369 Grand is growing decently in height and could likely be more of a green shade (I look at it every day out of my window haha).

Tribune East would be legendary. Did my best to support it at the last community meeting. I think it's going to happen (but not for 2 years unfortunately).

I'm honestly surprised that OCS didn't go for 30 more feet to say it's a supertall. Just adding some decorative crown would have improved marketing for the rich that'll be going to their LTF & Whole Foods in the complex.

I'm consistently confused by the height arrangements some of these developers choose. It just seems the costs for achieving the next "level" in height would be justified by the sales pitches they could get for saying their building is "X". (X = a supertall, the tallest in Chicago, the tallest in the US, etc). Some of these buildings are only missing that next level by seemingly menial amounts. I understand this is a money game and that these people put in A LOT of effort into their decisions, but still it seems odd to me when they get so close to a benchmark and don't go for it.

Construction barricades going up around the 450 Lasalle site. The parking lot has been dormant for a while now, but it looks like a start could be imminent.

I believe this is the latest rendering (from TheRealDeal). It's just the building on the north half of the lot

"The building would have 40 bike parking stalls but no vehicle parking spaces"

That's what I'm talking about! Pumped, this is a respectable infill a few blocks from me. I'll check it out next time I pickup some deep dish!

Excited to see this rolling and get filled in. Right next to the Veseman building which is landmarked and probably makes this block a little tricky to develop.

^Your archive is one of a kind, Harry. Da Maere should award you the key to the city.

Phenomenal news about 450 N LaSalle. Got to love when a lot next to a Landmark gets wiped out. And an office no less.
Here's more on The Vesemen:

Plans show the core going in the far back (North) edge of the building.

Thanks, makes sense. I don't recall seeing the drawings (nor know how to access them) so will the Northern elevation not have usable office space and will it be shear wall/faux cladding or will it be slightly south of the property line/exterior?

This building plus 333 N Green have really had an impact extending downtown across the expressway while driving South, and to a slightly lesser extent, North, on 94. Coming from O'hare it really feels like the downtown has grown considerably just from these two buildings have gone up. With several new mid/high rises in Fulton/West Loop imminent, I'm really excited to experience the difference in 5 years.
