While lake effect and especially lake enhanced snow events are relatively common in Southeast Michigan they're usually brief with light accumulation despite the sometimes heavy rate of snowfall. The city of Detroit and especially the east and northeast sides of the metro are positioned south by south west of Lake Huron similar to Chicago with Lake Michigan and just like Chicago a sustained NNE wind can create a heavy band of lake effect. Port Huron is usually the only area that will get dumped on in this scenario because a long fetch NNE wind is uncommon but it can happen. Here's one such event from 2014 a heavy band of lake effect is over Windsor as seen from a plane by Michigan native meteorologist Dr. Jeff Masters.

That was pretty much the whole core. Buckhead's smaller skyline would be in the upper right of that photo.
