I've been wondering how much progress they've been actually making on Sugarmont also Scott. With all of that wrapping it seems to have not progressed at all. We just have had to assume if anything that interior work was continuing. I ran across this update, which explains what is going on. Also, looks like they'll be starting up with Sugar Alley in the next couple of weeks...https://www.sugarhousecouncil.org/co...tion-projects/

Sugarmont Apartments—Boulder Ventures

Start date: Fall of 2017.

Update: The project is in the late stages with finishing work now occurring outside and inside the structure. Big D Construction is now in full construction mode with 110 construction workers on site, mostly working on the interior spaces. They are projecting Phase I occupancy to be in early Fall with total completion in about fifteen months.
Periodic lane closures, particularly north bound McClelland, may still occur as large trucks baring materials enter or leave the work site. Flagmen will be on hand to assist traffic on these occasions. As part of the last phases of the project the SE McClelland Street frontage will undergo some improvements that will include re-paving, curb & gutter replacement, and a raised crosswalk at the McClelland/Sugarmont intersection. This work now looks to be taking place early to mid-July.

completion: First phase, fall 2020; complete summer 2021.

Location: Project borders Sugarmont and McClelland St.

Regarding the Sugarmont, some of the exterior covering has been coming off lately and the building looks largely finished underneath. Next time I am over there, I will snap a photo.

Also in Sugar House, I noticed that the Sizzler at the southeast corner of 1300 E and 2100 S has recently gone under. I wonder if there are any plans for this site. It's kind of isolated in its current orientation but it has access to Sugar House Park and the pedestrian tunnel under 1300 E, so it definitely has potential. Hopefully they don't just build a Walgreens there or something.

Here's a new BSL photo update today covering projects on the west side of the city:

And given the current ownership of the Brighton Bank building, it wouldn't surprise me to see if there were plans to redevelop it down the road. https://www.kicutah.com/properties/311-state-street/

That was the reason I picked the location. I had heard something shortly after the property was purchased that they wanted to eventually do something big on the location.

I think the ultimate decision on speed and height will depend on how well Kensington Tower does.

DABC looks at a multi-story liquor store for downtown SLC and curbside liquor
Quote:
"They’ve identified a particular piece of property downtown we may be able to use. We are consulting with Salt Lake City about whether or not they have concerns about developing there," Petilos told the subcommittee...

The DABC is going to eventually move the Pioneer Park liquor store (it currently leases the land). But downtown real-estate is a premium. Petilos identified no location, but the artist rendering appears to show the store on Broadway and Edison St.

The DABC would not confirm the location of the store.

If the Fox 13 article is correct about the location, I think we are talking about the same site as that University of Utah design competition from awhile back. Here was an image from the second-place proposal that shows the site:

The rendering makes it look like the liquor store is planned to take up that long surface parking lot in the above image.

Two stories really doesn’t matter because the state refuses to carry a good verity of products. Even local products gave a hard time getting or staying listed. Their stupid algorithm means it will be two stories of Jack Daniel and Bacardi. Until they change their system the Utah liquor stores will always be trash.

Liquor stores will be trash until they're privatized.

But I'm glad downtown (and from the sounds of it, Sugarhouse as well) is getting a nicer liquor store. Even if the selection isn't all that much better, at least I'm less likely to feel like I'm being herded like sheep when I go there.

Really they should, in addition to building a new downtown location, also build another one in the central city/liberty wells area.

I think you're correct. I've had conversations with those guys on several occasions, and they really love SLC and are committed to making good things happen. I hope they are successful.

Amen to that. I don't drink but these state run liquor stores are embarrassing. I don't see the point of them.
