Fernie to Red is at least 4 hours, maybe you meant Rossland? Fernie to Fernie is about 10 minutes though lol.
I just typed out the article basically word for word I didn't add "Albertan" myself.
And yes youth from here steal just as much I'm sure.

So Parks Canada just forced Sunbshine Village to accept their new guidelines or risk having the resort taken from them with no compensation. I think Sunshine was being a bit dramatic, but I also don't think a parkade at the base of the ski hill is a viable option, especially for a seasonal business.

Could it be used for summer activities as well ? There's some traffic up Sunshine in the summer but not a ton.

I agree that a parkade at the base of the hill isn't ideal but you see the cars all piled up there during busy ski days, maybe the idea needs some thought to alternatives. Maybe a shuttle from a more suitable location

Big news should be coming soon about the resurrection of Fortress.

Sunshine wants an overflow lot apparently, and Parks Canada said no. They can do shuttles from Banff, but that won't help anyone from Calgary or elsewhere. The biggest drawback of a parkade is the cost to build it.

I want Fortress so bad I can taste it! I hope they build for downhill MTB as well!

Was at Whistler on Sunday, light fluffy powder from midstation all the way up and blue skies. Glorious.

Great day at Louise Saturday, lots of snow and if you know where to look, lots of fresh tracks all day. Man do we need more hills in Alberta, the lift lines at Louise were the longest I've ever seen, they need another chair from the front side!!

Great day at Revy on Saturday. Powder stashes to be had from top to bottom.

I've noticed the same thing this year at Revy and Sun Peaks. By far the busiest I've ever seen the 2 resorts.

Apparently Fortess is opening 2020 (I've heard tentative opening dates before so I'm not holding my breath), really hope this is true, the resorts here are all way too crowded!

I met the new owners late last year. They're pretty bullish on getting that hill going again. They're putting a bunch of capital behind it so I hope they can get it off the ground.

That was probably my favorite smaller hill when I lived in Calgary.

A great little hill but could get really windy. Also had a proclivity to getting icy, not unlike Nakiska.

Yeah I remember being caught in a snow twister half way up the smaller chair that ran up from the top of the gulch. that was pretty wild.

It was more of a boarder's hill but I liked the steep & choppy terrain. Plus most of the guys I skied with were on snowboards so I got used to riding with them. It was almost the exact opposite of Nakiska with it's big wide open cuts and groomed runs.

F'ng great news about Fortress!!! I have many a great memory of skiing there in the 90's .... and a wicked scar on my arm from boarding there too! Cool about the expansion. I've hiked Whiskey bowl area and great to think that that will be trails! Would definitely come back for a visit!

Whistler sucked this weekend!!!

Most of the resort was closed on Saturday - all of Blackcomb with only Garb, Red, Excalibur and Creekside open on Whistler (t bars were open for a bit). Conditions were hard pack leading to icy though since so much was closed, there were few people on the hill so the night before grooming held up quite well.

But really, -22 and wind is not a reason to shut down a resort. The weather on Saturday was like spring skiing at Sunshine

Will probably be a long time before they get lifts to Whiskey Bowl, that would likely be the last phase and be 10-15 years down the road at the earliest. Revelstoke has had a big master plan for years, but still only have 3 lifts more than 10 years later. Apparently there is a plan for a lift at Revy from the top of the gondola to the ripper chair, not sure what that will accomplish though, just to cut out he stoke chair lol.

Ya that's going in this summer. I think it'll do lots for movement around the upper half. Lines at the Stoke are getting longer. I just hope it helps with getting back from the Ripper. On a board it's a brutal cat track out.
