St. Bernard Square, once it gets going, will be nearly as tall.

It's taller, but I can't remember the construction of it. I would also assume there'd have to have been a taller crane to get those concrete panels to the top floor.

Here is my (attempted artistic) rendition of tower crane #7 as seen from the plaza in front of the Avenir Centre, useful for showing the massing and location of the 20 Record Street development as seen from the Main Street area.

This corresponds not too badly with my guesstimate from several months ago:

Here's a somewhat more meaningful image from Retail Talk & Share, shot from a window in the Assumption Building, showing the true height of the crane:

In the last picture, it looks like the mobile crane arm is bending.

I believe the project was on the CCD Canada site before, but not sure if it was just listed in the top 50. Today it's showed up in the project highlights section. Tower two $19,600,000! 14 storeys.

From CCD Canada:

TOWER 2, MONCTON - New Brunswick
NEW MIXED-USE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

Located in Moncton, 20 rue Record St., this project (Tower 2) estimated at $19 600 000 is in the planning stage. Works concern the construction of a mixed-use building, 14 storeys in height, with residential, retail and office space, and underground parking.

I went by the site last evening and noticed that they've done a lot of excavating (of course). But what stood out to me is that they've excavated right up to the sidewalk on the Record Street side. There's literally no ground beside the sidewalk, a straight drop off from the excavation work. Does this mean that the building will directly abut the Record Street sidewalk? It seems like it.

Yes, this was always the case. See site plan below.

It's a start but that view shows how there is still a hell of a lot of wasted (parking lot) space in downtown Moncton. Just imagine how that's going to fill in in the years and decades to come.

It's going to take 50 years (in all likelihood), but even the longest journey begins with a single step.

Downtown Moncton has oodles of potential, primarily because it is a tabula rasa (blank slate). It is because of this that almost anything is possible. Add to that the growth of the metro area, and Moncton's "can do" attitude, and it will be exciting to see what transpires.......

20 Record Street, current status:

Lots of work has been done on the underground parking for Tower #1, and I would say the concrete will be poured for the floor of the ground level by the time that winter arrives. As long as it isn't too cold, I hope that they start working on the superstructure over the winter.

Well there was a major concrete operation going on there today. I saw multiple cement trucks on the site this morning. Indeed it would be great if they could start work on the superstructure this winter. I know it's going to take years to complete, but what a major addition to that neighbourhood this development is going to be!

One more step along the way! It will be interesting to see how much they can get done before winter. I drive by there every Saturday morning, but can't ever recall seeing them working. But I have seen crews working Saturdays at many other construction sites around the city.

I love this picture. Looking forward to the finished product. Very hopeful this will be a catalyst for exponential growth. Hopefully upwards.
