$3M has now been earmarked for a replacement covered bridge in St Martins leading to the Fundy Trail Parkway.

Telegraph Journal Photo

The replacement will be a stylized covered bridge as pictured above, but will be wide enough, tall enough and strong enough for RV traffic headed for the Fundy Trail.

I'm pretty sure this will be the first new covered bridge built in NB since they built the replacement bridge in Fundy Park about 20 years ago.

Ski Cape Smokey Development

The ski hill in Ingonish is looking to become a year-round destination.

Cape Smokey tree walk slated to open this summer

A seven-storey 'tree walk' in Ingonish Beach, N.S., will be accessible to wheelchair users and parents with baby strollers, say project partners. (Submitted by Cape Smokey Holding Ltd.)

In addition to the tree walk (thought to be the first of it's kind in North America), they're also planning a lodge/microbrewery (rendering shown in the CBC article) and Atlantic Canada's first gondola.

This looks fantastic Smevo!!

I'll post photos of the gondola and the microbrewery from the CBC article:

I've been toying with taking another drive around the Cabot Trail soon. I wonder if this will be open by the fall? It would give me a reason to take the trip.

Between the Kent expansion and Home Hardware (with M&M SHops) moving up there, Connell is becoming quite the retail hub for Woodstock. I hope the Mary Browns franchise can take off there; the signs been up outside the mall for a few years now.

Where did you find that rendering? That is indeed impressive. I didn't realize Smokey was looking for a full resort-style development, but it's nice to see them thinking big for the health of the ski-hill (and resort as a whole).

Should be very popular.

They're going to have to reopen the gas station in Ingonish for all these tourists that are going to show up!

Canso Spaceport Snags $10.5 Million Investment From Toronto Firm
May 13, 2021by Trevor Nichols
https://huddle.today/canso-spaceport...-toronto-firm/

Quote:
Maritime Launch Services (MLS) announced May 12 it has closed a financing deal with PowerOne Capital Markets. The deal will see the Toronto investment bank put $10.5 million into the project.

Maritime Launch Services says the money will help it launch its first rocket in 2022.

That initial launch will be what MLS calls a “small-class launcher.” Once it’s complete, the company plans to “mature” its launch site as it prepares for what will be its main launch vehicle: medium-class, Cyclone 4M rockets.

The company says it plans to begin construction of its Canso Spaceport this fall and begin launching Cyclone 4M rockets by 2023. Eventually, the company hopes to launch eight-to-ten rockets a year.

If that happens, the commercial spaceport will be the first of its kind in Canada.

I stumbled across this proposal for an active living retirement community on 115 acres in the tiny community of Abercrombie, Nova Scotia which is between New Glasgow and Pictou. Site plan shows a mix of apartment, fourplex and land-lease lots.

Holland Ridge Development

Pictou Advocate Article

Twin Rivers Properties (unsure if they still own the land).

Saw on the Woodstock FB page; an M&M Meats outlet is open in the Home Hardware downtown. When they move to their new location out by the mall, M&M Meats will go with them.

And good news for the town, it does look like the Home Hardware building has already sold; so that space shouldn't be empty for too long. The rumours I saw on FB said a Microbrewery and restaurant are looking to set up in the old space.

There are multiple gas stations open in Ingonish. Caper Gas is open, and the Irving just had brand new tanks and island pump system installed earlier in the summer.

I filled up at the Irving in July on a trip up.

Interesting. I remember a CBC article from the spring bemoaning the fact that the last gas station in town was closing and that people would have to travel nearly to Baddeck to fill up.

It was CTV, not CBC:

https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/ingonish...ions-1.5165495

The article stated that Ingonish was losing one of two gas stations (the Irving) and they were pretty upset. If you gassed up at the Irving, they must have had a change of heart.

$130 millon dollar investment in the region might have had something to do with it.
