I don't get your angle dude. First you come here and spout off how much Edmonton sucks, with "Deadmonton" posted as your location, and now it's like you are promoting the city with all these pics and have changed your location name to Edmonton.
^exactly what was going through my mind. (Hell>Edmonton, etc.)

Maybe I've realized that my actions on here could be perceived as insulting.
I'm a guest on this board and in this city as well. It's change, and a sincere attempt at change for the better. Why do you feel the need to question it?
As for the photos. Someone in that other thread suggested I go out and see the city, so I spent 3 hours on Saturday taking pictures. I also took the pictures for my mum, who has never been to Edmonton and has seen nothing more than cell phone shots, which in my opinion don't do any subject much justice.

its funny, when I look at photos of Edmonton the first thing I notice is the overhead lines for the buses. but when i'm driving through the city, even downtown, I never notice!
I think it gives the streets some character. I wanna say grunge but without offending anyone in Edmonton, you know?

i know what you mean the ones in vancouver glare out when you see pictures but when on the road i never notice them unless a bus stalls and needs to reconnect - happens a lot here
Thanks for the photos, ScotM. One of Canada's largest cities that you don't hear much about. I hope to visit the West sometime.
I think I know what Onishenko meant though when he said that height and density isn't everything. But at least some of the newer projects in Edmonton are nicely designed.
Looking at the condition of the roads you would think it was Winnipeg
Its the only province with no debt, swimming in surpluses, yet the municipal roads department does not have the money to fixes the potholes. I'd like to see what the road at Ed Stelmach's place is like.

I'm quite fond of the overhead lines here. They're very congested in Toronto and Vancouver. Something Edmonton has done very well to avoid.
I took a few pics of the lines crossing over Manulife Place that I hope to post tomorrow, if I can remember to buy new batteries to transfer the photos over to my desktop.

The reason Edmonton's lines don't look so congested is because they are not. Edmonton has the typical street grid of a central Canadian city (similar to Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon) in that their streets are very WIDE. This gives them all kinds of room to put up wires, make transit lanes etc. without disturbing the street dynamic all that much. The streets in Vancouver and Toronto are much less wide.

Seriously I do.
In edmontons defense as someone who lived far north the roads take a beating from the winter - potholes are a way of life and usually are not repaired that often due to the fact that another winter and they are just gonna be wrecked again
so they tend to patch the holes and every decade (guessing) will do a full repaving
