Eagle Pointe (800 Eagleson Rd) | 21m | 6f | Completed

Ironclad Developments Inc. is proposing to construct a six (6) storey apartment building with 143 purpose-built rental units. A mixture of stacked and ground-oriented dwellings is proposed, comprised of 49 one-bedroom, 66 two-bedroom, and 28 three-bedroom units. The subject site is municipally known as 800 Eagleson Road and 5264 Fernbank Road.

The bulk of the building’s massing will be oriented towards Fernbank Road, with a section of the ‘T’ shaped-building facing south towards the Monahan Drain. The building will have two entrances, with the main entrance located off Eagleson Road. Each unit will be accessed from a common entryway and vestibule and will have an amenity space in the form of a balcony or a walk-out patio. A total of 172 on-site parking spaces will be provided for residents and visitors, which includes underground and surface parking.

In addition, ICD is also proposing to build a separated multi-use pathway through the south end of the site, extending the existing pathway along the Monahan Drain to Eagleson Road. The proposed pathway is to be built atop of the existing berm separating the Monahan Drain from the subject site, and follows a similar route as proposed in the UNC in the city’s Cycling Plan.

Cool, looks like a breath of fresh air for suburban apartments.

Hopefully this actually moves forward at a nice pace unlike the apartments/condos on Cope!

Looks cool, I'm just not sure why anyone would want to rent an apartment in that location.

Not much in walking distance and transit is terrible.

It’s only about 600m from the Superstore and about 1km from both the Eagleson Place shopping centre and the Fernbank Walmart shopping centre. Granted neither Eagleson nor Fernbank are the nicest roads to walk along.

Your point about bus service is well taken, but not everyone who lives in an appointment doesn’t have a car. There are many other reasons to live in an apartment.

I think work has been underway for at least 6 months but slow at times.

This is nearing completion. There are people living in the building now on the first few floors. It looks like they are still working on the upper floors and no landscaping yet.

No fence along Fernbank as depicted in the renders, and there is no red accents on building either. Not sure if that will be coming later or not.

Will grab some photos later this week.

CAPREIT buys Kanata apartment complex for $61M

David Sali, OBJ
February 28, 2023 | 3:25 PM ET

Constructed in 2021, Eagle Pointe is a “high-quality asset” that fits the company’s long-term strategy to upgrade its holdings by selling older buildings and acquiring new builds, CAPREIT president and CEO Mark Kenney told OBJ on Tuesday.

Looks like this might be more comfortable in Nunavut or Murmansk?

I will hand it to them, it's probably very energy efficient?

I'll admit, this building is definitely not anything special, but it does look better in person. The attached photo makes it look old (and like it belongs up north somewhere LOL)

I must be out of touch with construction costs, but I never thought this building would be worth $61M! Yikes!

I don't know why exactly, but this building reminds me of the kind of architecture you see in the Canadian North in fly-in fly-out communities.

interesting comments given that Canadian North's (the airline) headquarters is one of the few things within walking distance of this place

Because it looks like a modular design constructed of shipping containers, and has those faux pilings that make it look like it's built on the permafrost? Something like this.

You can tell it's classy, though, because there's an "e" at the end of Pointe.

Does look better when looking at it in Streetview (or real life, I assume). Fernbank front in particular is decent.
