Yeah, Imageshack seems to scale down really large images. Do you have a Flickr account? Because you'd be able to post everything in their entirety there.

I've been using imgur - they appear to have a 1MB filesize limit. I guess the original LA map was greater than this, and was thus resized. Luckily though, this will only be a problem for the very largest of maps, LA, New York, perhaps Tokyo. I will work around it though.

I adore these maps, but I really love your pairings. Such completely odd combinations. Really nice.

Since everyone else is making requests...what's the status on a possible Portland Oregon map?

One way to compare cities without fear of pictures being shrunk is maybe making the images smaller, then merging them into one image(I just cut and paste them side by side) and then upload it that way so even if the image is altered by imageshack or whoever, the scale of the cities remains the same. Just something I learned through trial and error.

Once again, great work spotila.

I had considered doing something like that. If there were any problems with resizing I might've had to go along with it, but the LA map issue was isolated and easily fixed, so no matter

Just a minor nitpick on the Miami map. You left off Key Biscayne (the island on the bottom right, south of Miami Beach. It has a population over 10,000 per square mile. You also didn't include Fisher Island, the condo enclave just south of South Beach (north of Key Biscayne), also the wealthiest community in the US.

Ah yes - good point. I'll fix that up at some stage

Good news - the Pearl River Delta is very nearly complete, expect to see that within the next day or so, along with another surprise

In the mean time, some more maps:

Next, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and the home of North America's largest mall

Cairns, Australia
Metro Population: 150,920

Edmonton, AB
City Population: 730,372
Metro Population: 1,034,945

^ I had no idea there was an Edmonton in Australia . The only two things I can notice you missed on the Edmonton (AB) map are:

- the newer Windermere communities in SW Edmonton which are hardly developed at all in those satellite images because they're already a few years old (2007 or 2008 I think) so I understand you missing it.

- The Namao military area directly north of Edmonton (if you see the airstrip, that's the area). It's home to military families and CFB (Canadian Forces Base) Edmonton.

Otherwise, nicely done. This is a great way to show how much of the suburbs are contained within the City of Edmonton rather separate municipalities like many other cities as all the separate municipalities are actually separated by roads, farms, etc. by Edmonton (aside from Sherwood Park, which by your map still looks separated due to the Transit Utility Corridor). Calgary follows a similar fashion but even more of the suburbs are contained within the city.

Well gentlemen, I told you it was coming, and here it is. For super wide screens only. After 2 weeks work, I bring to you the powerhouse of southern China, the mighty

Pearl River Delta, People's Republic of China
Guangzhou City Population: 12,700,800
Shenzhen City Population: 10,357,938
Hong Kong City Population: 7,061,200
Dongguan City Population: 8,220,237
Huizhou City Population: 4,597,002
Foshan City Population: 7,194,311
Macau City Population: 544,600
Pearl River Delta Conurbation: 63,724,157 - 120,000,000 (varying statistics)

notes: I did my best to include every sizeable piece of urbanity in the region. There are thousands upon thousands of tiny settlements in the Delta region that I couldn't possibly include, but most of the areas worth mentioning are covered. Please appreciate this map took me many hours to complete, so while it may look pretty to you, I am glad to see the back of it
