They cant really do anything to that side without kicking out all the retail on 2nd street. I could see them doing a makeover but I doubt you'll see major structural changes.

That's what I meant. Not a complete teardown. Just a facade makeover. It's going to look really outdated compared to the upcoming Hines, Block 23 and CityScape.

Apparently 3rd street between Washington and Jefferson was closed today through the weekend for crane installation. I haven’t been by to verify.

Crane is up! But they are definitely going to have to raise it higher to complete the building, similar to Kenect.

Awfully short. Only going to be able to get about 3 levels in before it needs raised.

I think they have a whole lot of work to do underground before they will build up.

I was under the impression that the first Europeans to settle in Arizona were Spanish...

But I'm no historian, so what do I know!!

Yeah, you're both right--Marcy Adeline Gray was the first white woman to settle in Phoenix; the Spanish were in Arizona first, but never settled as far north as Phoenix. Still don't love the naming convention, but I can appreciate an effort to tap into some local history.

Wow what an ignorant comment. "Spanish" are considered "white." I am part Spanish so I would know

I didn't take that comment as an either/or, since (supposedly), the Spanish settlers weren't in Phoenix. If they were, they would be the first white/European settlers. Make sense?

Yeah weird. Looks a little outdated too.

Hopefully once Astra is built, it will make a significant enough impact on how downtown looks that marketing for downtown will include it so we won't keep seeing these outdated images of downtown.
