at least with the concrete, they could stain or paint it. even if it's painted black with yellow divider lines, it would better match the rest of the greenbelt.

but they could be more creative. painted brick pattern, a stone pattern that matches the Anne Frank memorial, a flowing river design, wooden plank design with dozens of squirrels running all over.

I feel the opposite. As someone who lives in the Afton II, I agree it could have been a couple floors higher but think this new one should be a couple floors lower. I think the office buildings along River St. are a good height near the river so as not to overshadow and dominate it.
I face 9th St and no doubt those warehouses (records storage) and Mardi Gras aren't far off from being bought up and developed. Hopefully more townhouses than high rises.

Found this video from 2008 for plans for Trapper's Island. Anyone know why this fell through? I think it would have been a better option for that area.
Or did this become the condos up on Crescent Rim?

Several Boise parks could fit the criteria to be
"America's most beautiful urban parks".

random pics 10/11

Real beauty this 11th & Idaho is turning out to be!

In all this smoke and pandemic, almost forgot how sweet you are Boise...
finally got our Jefferson St bike lanes!

New contraflow protected bike lane, very cool.

Garden City

"West Downtown"
St Lukes

Fingers crossed on the resurrected Cassanova... in that corner space!

Central Addition
Cartee... the first floor with the distinctive angle is now in, I like.

Caddis - those massive cantilevered planters around the parking garage, very cool.

As a Bench resident, been meaning to share a pic of the finished (or very close to finished) Kootenai Townhomes -- along with the recent reworking of Kootenai, the street has taken a nice urban form, favorite recent project on the Bench. Riding your bike thru here is entirely different now.

& bonus GEM center pic, one of the more curious half blocks of tucked away Bench urbanity... will be cool too see if that nearby condo project happens...

Agreed..... missed opportunity on the aesthetics and experience. That said, as a daily cyclist into town, the newly functional surface is a game changer after decades of misery riding over that thing.

Yeah, 11th & Idaho is going to be one of the best looking buildings downtown. I know it all comes down to the bottom line, but I feel it would have looked so much better if it was at least twice as tall. It would have been an anchor to the west end of downtown and looked amazing with its glass exterior. Being able to see through the building is a really cool effect.

Yes, it is a completely different look when viewing from adjacent buildings at a similar elevation as opposed to peering up from street level. You just cannot appreciate how transparent the building is with the floor to ceiling glass when not looking from a perspective that is perpendicular or near perpendicular.
Great photos Trails! Agreed, it would be quite a sight if it were 30ish stories.

Boise is a ‘trending destination’ during pandemic, Airbnb says. What does that mean?

Quote:
Boise was named a top location for people who want to change their work environments when they can work from home, according to results released Thursday by Airbnb.
Quote:
“On Airbnb, people who have the opportunity to work from anywhere are actively booking longer stays (2+ week trips) in small-to-mid-size cities with access to immersive natural surroundings and wide-open spaces,” the company said in the news release.

Quote:
Boise came in at No. 2 in WalletHub’s rankings of 182 U.S. cities to determine the best places to take a staycation — or vacation close to home.
It appears Boise’s dozens of parks and the 25-mile-long Boise Greenbelt may have helped push the city into its position.

I think what also adds to the appeal of Boise, in addition to our natural surroundings, is the amount of incredible nature in city limits.

I drove around downtown a bit this weekend to see all of the projects. However, I didn't make it back to see how the St Luke's garage is coming along, or if they're ready to start the next phase.

Anyone been over there lately?

Thanks for the pix Sawtooth!

I really love the old school design for this one. Looking forward to seeing the finished product although the January 2021 opening listed on their website seems a bit optimistic.

The lower floor was going to be offices for Ednetics, a tech company. Upper floors were planned to be an event center. Project has stalled due to COVID.
