Had to head out to the suburban city of Mount Pearl for Christmas supper - a couple of mobile pics of the beautiful sunset this evening out there.

Happy New Year!

We went to Shea Heights for a view of the official fireworks... couldn't see them from there (even if it wasn't storming). But got to see some of the residential fireworks.

Tonight we went to see my favourite band, The Once, perform their Christmas concert at Gower Street United Church (these sorts of things generally continue for the full 12 days of Christmas).

Set to a few highlights from the concert, including their full (and awesome) performances of I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day and Rudolph and Clarice. And they sang a few of my favourite songs... Nameless Murderess, Fool For You, Song for Memory, etc.

So wonderful to sing "And it's row upon row of the people you know..." with an entire crowd from St. John's.

The wait at Piatto was too long so we decided to have supper at Zapatas.

And then walked the block to Gower Street United Church for the concert.

And then home sweet home...

A little trip to the neighbourhood grocery for some breakfast and British snacks.

Don't judge me for driving. I did try walking, but the slush was over my shoes so I went back and got the car.

There are two groceries on the blocks around my house - Sobey's, and Coleman's, a local chain. Coleman's is more expensive, but I prefer them because they stock all sorts of local and British things can't get at the mainland chains.

In nicer neighbourhoods, the Coleman's look just like any other grocery. In Rabbittown, though, it's of course a little poorer, cluttered, etc.

The aisles are all named after streets in the surrounding neighbourhood.

Driving the block and a half back to my place down Merrymeeting Road.

And my haul! British Cadbury (chocolate is one of the few things where there is a HUGE difference in taste between the Canadian/American varities and the UK versions. It's much less sweet, much more wholesome-tasting over there). Dubliner cheese. And a few British coke products.
