For real? There were a few people on the site when I drove by yesterday. There always seems to be about 5 people hanging around, but never really doing anything, so this doesn't surprise me...

Thanks for the updates, keep them coming. So Kelowna only has 3 (2?) towers u/c right now? the rest (such as the beautiful Westin) have been cancelled or suspended?

Well Invue is topped out too I think, but I'm too lazy to make my way out of the core.

Development proposal up to turn the A&B Sound building into a nightclub. I think that's cool. The area needs something...anything...

That's kind of funny. What's old is new again. From the mid 80s to around 1990 that location was a night club called "The Cave" (including cheesy Styrofoam stalactites adorning the interior), then, if I recall correctly, it was a country bar for a very short period of time before A&B Sound moved in.

It looks like the owner of the Lululemon building is planning on adding a 3rd storey in the near future as well, the renderings show an updated building.

Bernard Ave. project rises above recession

The recession is not disrupting plans for a 27-storey building on Bernard Avenue.

Kelowna city council has voted to issue a development permit for the highrise, to go up between Scotiabank and Lululemon.

The Vancouver-based Aquilini Development project would have 205 residential suites and street-level commercial spaces.

“I think it‘s a very positive sign that they‘re still wanting to move forward with this project,” said Mayor Sharon Shepherd on Wednesday. “I feel it‘s a very exciting and innovative development.”

Unlike some other recently constructed highrises, suites in the Aquilini project would not be marketed as vacation properties, Shepherd said. More than 40 per cent of the units would have one bedroom.

“Their marketing would be towards people who live and work year-round in Kelowna,” said Shepherd.

The company has struck a density-transfer agreement with the owners of the Lululemon building. What this means is that the Lululemon building will remain substantially as it is, with its future redevelopment potential assigned over to the highrise.

“That agreement will preserve the look of that corner,” Shepherd said.

No timeline was presented to council for construction.

Minus the roof part of Discovery Pointe, Skye is now the same height floor wise. At least I'm pretty sure.
Maybe in a week or two Kelowna will have a new tallest building!
