RIU Hotel’s Curtain Wall Installation Continues At 145 West 47th Street In Times Square, Manhattan

Quote:
Exterior work is shaping up at 145 West 47th Street, a 48-story RIU Hotel in Times Square. Designed by Berg + Moss Architects and developed by Tribeach Holdings, the 353,000-square-foot tower is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and will yield 630 rooms.

Since our last update in August, the glass and metal curtain wall appears to have reached the last habitable floor, leaving only the concrete walls of the upper mechanical extension and the lower podium floors facing West 47th Street awaiting completion. The exterior hoist is still attached to the rear elevation along West 48th Street and will also require further façade installation once dismantled. Yellow gypsum boards currently cover several sections of the exterior, awaiting the final curtain wall panels. A cement-mixing truck was seen parked outside the ground floor with one concrete boom poking through a gap in the perimeter wall of the second story.

It was reported that the podium of 145 West 47th Street would house a multi-story parking garage as well as a restaurant, which will likely occupy the level just below the setback. Hotel rooms will start on the seventh floor, with about 17 rooms per story. The main southern face will provide excellent views and plenty of natural light with its plethora of floor-to-ceiling glass. The northern elevation has fewer windows due to the location of the concrete core on this side of the tower.

145 West 47th Street looks like it could open sometime next year, though a finalized completion date has not been announced.

Any updates on this, Chris? I booked here in October. Does it look to have a terrace? Some sites say yes and some say no.

RIU hotels are lame per se. However, it's mid-block filler which also replaced a disgusting garage, and it provides much-needed new hotel rooms. Ergo, it's an overall win for THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!
