Update on this building.

Page B5 of the Mar 15 Free Press has a legal notice saying that 138 Portage Ave East is up for a mortgage sale. Last time property taxes were paid was to the end of 2018 and the reserve bid was not in the ad.

Agreed. Ideally the plan by the previous developer will continue, if not a greater one, such as adding additional floors over and above the previous plan.

This is a very good sign. Bizarrely, the MMF apparently has plans to put a boutique hotel on top of the Carlton Club (Yoga Public). I don't really understand why or how they want to, or why that location was chosen – but this would be far superior. And right next to their new HQ...

Yeah, that's a good point. It sure would allow them to build on their new HQ. I guess they're committed to the Carleton Club site, though? Have any details emerged about that, by the way? It seems like an intriguing project, although to be honest it doesn't sound like the most realistic one.

Where is MMF getting all this money? Bank of Montreal. Building a boutique hotel? How about hiring someone to work in the office. Takes years to get a document out of them.

Well they got $170m from just one of the land claims they won last year. The feds gave them the money to buy BMO. They have tons of money.

Easier to cut big cheques to people that had their land stolen and institutionalized by the Canadian government than to cut cheques to companies that got all the benefits that come with a English charter that gave them rights to a 3rd of the bloody continent for free, that over 200 years managed to squander that massive head-start into a series of foreign owned department stores that hemorrhage money.

I have whole sections of my family that are metis. Including my wife and son. They are both the white man from Europe and the indigenous people. I get it. I'm not talking about hbc the company. Just the building downtown.

That would be great as it looks like the addition would fill a surface lot.,

Is there any more info? Is the addition still the same size, scale?
How many units? Any retail? Expected completion date? Rental prices?

Does that spot seem a weird place to land a hotel or is it just me? Am excited for it regardless but it seems so out in the sticks as far as downtown and walkability. I realize it’s close to P&M but it just seems like such a cold unappealing little stretch in Portage N
