If you like Indian, African, or Jamaican food Dino’s the best in the city. That’s saying something because the competition is surprisingly stiff here. It is a lifeblood for the Central Park residents.

When it comes to Downtown adjacent neighborhoods there are a bunch of them scattered around which is nice. I just selfishly want a 50k sq ft or higher grocery store anywhere in the Portage & Main/Forks area. Co-op would be my top choice since their local and know how to design a nice grocery store as seen in the St. Norbert location.

Market conditions haven't been that kind to this development... increased costs, increased interest rates, probably at least somewhat decreasing demand for downtown living post-pandemic. I would imagine it would be a minor miracle if this actually gets built in the next five years.

Impressive if true. The totally market-driven north half seems like a very iffy proposition, so it would be quite something to me if construction starts there anytime soon.

The Exchange District is an exception to the rule. People with money want to live there, and there’s a lot of students at RRC who would love to live nearby. I don’t think there’s a more walkable area in the city tbh.

I think we tend to underrate how many people want to live in walkable areas, but even if there is softer demand it just means cheaper prices for people like me who want to get out of the suburbs so win-win

If they do it the way they do it in proper downtowns, without a massive surface lot*, sure, but:

1. Support independent grocers and they'll have better stock
2. Many small groceries is better for accessibility (distance from residence, integration into commute) and not driving
3. Diversity of specialty shops can thrive when not being run out of the neighbourhood by a billion dollar giant.
4. People are going to have to learn to shop without their car.

Besides, if Sobey's or Loblaw's or Co-op want to open a supermarket downtown, they certainly can. I find it hard to believe they don't have a department watching neighbourhood [planned] growth and doing the maths. They don't seem to think we're worth it, or they're keeping it under their hats.

They have a hot case of light fare, like patties and samosas. I don't think it's much more than they had at the old location.

That's Deen's, a restaurant. It's still there. Dino's is a grocery store.

MB Hydro and the city are back to their tone-deaf tricks with replacing the decorative lighting in the Exchange District. They recently started to remove the very unique and pedestrian-scaled five-globe fixtures and replaced them with the standard one-globe polls that are way too tall. Then today I noticed on Waterfront that they've introduced an even more plain fixture that better suits a subdivision in East St. Paul. So now there's a mix of several different types of fixtures in the district. Looks awful. *edit* (meant this foe the exchange thread but close enough)

No take-out available as far as I know. Dino's is very commonly used in my family and I've never heard any mention of prepared food at the new spot.

Pretty amusing seeing any mention of Dino's here of all places haha

Latest rendering of the Market Lands development.

The building will be one of the first net zero carbon projects in Canada, it will produce as much energy as it consumes. The design includes a state-of-the art building envelope, with the front of the building being clad entirely in solar panels.

^ For me the design is kind of bland, but so was the police station/parkade IMO. Great to see it being made carbon-neutral, though; for me that makes up for a lot.
