I thought the cross thing was weird but the memorial is so big it probably won't be very forefront.

There are legitimate grounds for complaint re: the cross. Some religious conservatives use such imagery to bully and oppress people, and unsurprisingly some religious liberals and non-religious people resent it. If it can be reasonably stated that the cross's inclusion was not in any way influenced by the religious significance ascribed to its shape by some Christians, then it can be legitimately included. Otherwise, it doesn't belong in the memorial.

Nice photos. You really can appreciate just how close and connected everything really is.

Also, leave the religious discussion/debate out of this. Thank you.

My latest September 11th Memorial rendering. So-called "2.0" rendering.

Nice pic, too bad there aren't any people captured in that pic. We could use that person as a comparison to give us an idea of how big it actually is.

I added the WTC towers in the background:

Here's a disturbing thought: By the time the memorial, museum, transit hub, WTCs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and the Performing Arts Center are complete...a child born on 9/11/2001 will be in high school. If we imagine further delays, they may be entering college. That long to rebuild from an attack by 19 people.

You make it seem like the attack was small scale and insignificant.

Well it did take well over 30 years to build the original towers from the very beginning process to construction. I don't think anyone should of been expecting brand new buildings to spring up on this site within a years time after 9/11. I know plenty of people wished they would, but that was just never going to happen.

Obviously it was major, but come on folks: It didn't take this long to rebuild all of West Berlin after the war. We should just admit to ourselves that the state of our society allowed a terrorist attack to cause a microeconomic Dark Age in LM for a decade or more.

I was just explaining to someone the other day why a decade later, we are still rebuilding. Whether people want to admit it or not, this is a very complex undertaking. There was no simple process or answer here as to what would be built, where, and how much how soon. Not to mention things had to be payed for. Construction on the various WTC related developments didn't really begin until the last 2 to 3 years, and no one can deny the progress since then - even though there has since been a few delays. And when developments worldwide came to a halt or were frozen in place, WTC redevelopment moved forward and we're where we are now because of it. It wasn't easy, but it's getting done.

Hate to ask and look like an idiot...but here it goes. What are they building right behind the museum?? It it has the steel beams with a small temp wooden bridge with 3 or 4 men on it. I thought this was a cross street ( Greenwich St)in the middle of the project??

I like the progress of Tower 2 to the far right of this photo. This sucker will be up before you know it.

Unless I'm wrong I think that's the Subway/PATH tunnel that will be below the future Greenwich St. The tunnel itself is still a little below the final street level, so I believe the beams are forming that new level.
