The Smile Restaurant has been demolished now and the corner lot is being used for parking.

They tore down the building in the center of the block. Parking is on the corner lot.

They were removing the asphalt paving from the parking lot that operated there for years, and digging out the bases of the two Pattison advertising hoardings that were on the site. They then refilled with gravel.

Victory Square has a 75 foot height limit but they got the extra height from the market rental.

I imagine they will start with the Ex-Smile Diner site and build that first and use the other site (parking lot) to stage from.

The two buildings in between just sold to another developer. Curious to see what happens. Maybe Onni will sell to the new buyer in the middle. Interesting that Onni didnt buy the middle lot when it came to market

I guess they would have to do something with the facades so maybe they didn't want to bother with them.

These two?

They are the very definition of "sublime decrepitude". Great movie sets.

Formerly beautiful historical buildings turning into eye sores. What a mess of a neighbourhood.

Thanks for the updates on this! Was super worried they'd tear down the green building because the basement has a wild tenant. Wish they still had the Dogecon paper mache head though.

Before Bangtown put up their new sign the building looked pretty worse for wear. Definitely looks better than a few years ago.

Glad to see work progressing, finally. 140 rental units is great news, and I have always liked the heritage-respecting look of these buildings. Filling these gaps on Pender is really going to help the area, and I like the look of those CRUs.

Heritage shmeritage, what about a shortage of downtown density?

Also can we not build at least as tall as the building that has been on the end of the block for a million years?

Probably no but don't blame me when there is no developable land/density in the CBD. Or when increasingly larger/taller buildings get demolished due to lack of land. Or when there is increased pressure on surrounding neighborhoods because we squandered all the space in the CBD. bah humbug

Thank you for the updates mcminsen.

Another downtown surface level parking lot bites the dust. Oh surface level lots, you were once so plentiful but now riding off into the sunset.

Former surface level parking lot that had been there since the beginning of time or close to it.
