Some of the notices that went out before excavation began...foundation possibly completed by the end of next year.

I agree 20 months seems like a lot but you have to remember that size wise we are speaking of a building Shanghai World Financial Center caliber or bigger, this hole is gonna need to be huge.

The sleeping gaint is about to be awakened! (Not that there is any shortage of major projects in NYC already, between the WTC, 432 Park, One57, Hudson Yards, 56 Leonard, and 30 Park Place. They can totally take their time if they want, way too much to watch going on as it is!)

We're talking 20 months for excavation and foundation work. A large portion of the store will be underground.

Seeing that we're almost at the end of the month wherein said excavation/foundation work would start, I too would hope that a render peek will be forthcoming.

Why have we waited all this time anyway? Everyone knows the dimensions and that it's an as-of-right tower, plus the fact that there aren't a whole bunch of NIMBY's to pacify.

I say first renders are out within the first week of June.

Please forgive any lapse of grammar or logic in this post, I just woke up like 10 minutes ago when I saw the update to this thread......

With 0ne 57th pretty close to being sold out and 432 Park touting its getting $95 million dollar offer for its penthouse, its in Barnetts and Extells best interest to get a buzz started on this tower. Best way to do that? Release a rendering in the WSJ and start tout NYCs newest iconic.

With units going for as much as i previously mentioned, there certainly seems to be massive amounts of demand out there. Lets get this thing going and some units under contract so we dont have to worry about Bernake and the economy.

On a different note, and like someone previously mentioned, this thing is going to be around the height of the Shanghai World Financial Center. wow. We're experiencing, arguably, the greatest time in NYC skyscraper construction.

It's also crazy to think that within the upcoming years NYC will have at least 2 buildings higher than 1WTC in roof height and a few more close to it.

And I have seen SWFC in person, it's hard to describe how overwhelming a ~500 meter building is.

Hopefully we will see renders soon

As much excitement I have for a 1,550 foot building in New York, the project is still way out of contention for world's tallest building. I think its pretty sad we've got nothing even in the running.

1550 feet is certainly one of the world's tallest, what are you talking about? NYC doesn't need a 2000 footer to be amazing.

Look at Shanghai, it has a 2k footer, a 1600 footer but then only 1 or two supertalls after that. NYC will have a 1600 footer, a handful of 12-1300 foot buildings and many more in the 900-1000 range, I think it's a better deal.

Plus It could end up taller, 1550 could be referring to the top floor.

1,550 feet is not one of the world's tallest, even the Freedom Tower would currently be taller than that at 1776 feet. Well I'm not comparing NYC to Shanghai or any other city, its just a fact that many upcoming cities are moving near 2,000 feet or above now. New York certainly does not need one to be amazing, no. It's skyline is still one of the best in the world. I'm just pointing out what I'm seeing.

How many cities are actually seriously building 2000 foot buildings?

I'll take 1600 feet, it would dwarf everything in 95% of cities around the globe. I don't care if Shanghai and Dubai have 1 2000 footer
