Even though this is not as tall as Hudson's, I think this is going to make more of an impact to downtown especially at street level.

Beautiful. I lîke that this looks so well planned out, not just building for buildings sake.

My thoughts exactly. This will not be another Renaissance Center, District Detroit or Hart Plaza. It will actually be a living breathing part of downtown life like Hudsons was and Campus Martius is.

Just noticed on the Monroe Blocks website that it says the office tower will have terra cotta used on the facade.

Has anyone seen if there is any staging of equipment or materials at the failed jail site? In earlier reports it was supposed to be used for materials for the Monroe blocks project. Now that the holiday is over they have to get moving with things sometime soon.

I have seen workers parking there but not equipment. Maybe the use of the word staging is better described as temp parking. Everything seems to take forever in this town with the exception of the new Lafayette West. I follow other threads out of NY and Chicago and things just get done far faster.

They must be far more experienced with it...is there even a crew here in MI that can tackle this type of vertical construction?

Detroit has a smaller labor force than either NYC or Chicago so the slower pace of construction is unsurprising.

Recent surveys have stated the 80% Michigan contractors expect to hire more in 2019 but are currently struggling to find workers. Investments are being made into training and higher pay, but in the long-term without changes to other parts of Michigan's economy (i.e, less reliance on manufacturing/the auto industry), it'll never be able to compete with the high growth states in terms of speed and volume of construction.

I don't see what the auto industry has to do with a national labor shortage...

Anyway, this only broke ground a couple weeks ago.

Of course. Michigan may not have a lot of skyscrapers but it has a lot of enormous steel factories. Someone has to build it.

The closest People Mover stop is the Cadillac Center station which is in side the 1 Campus Martius parking garage although it's not physically connected with the garage.

The closest QLine stop is the Campus Martius stop on the opposite side of 1 Campus Martius on Woodward.
