Glad to hear it. As a native southsider (grew around the Beverly area), after moving to Naperville for a short while my wife and I were both looking forward to getting back into the city while hoping to find something more organic and natural in feel and character. Hyde Park has done the trick. Wonderful history, character, and culture in Hype Park.

Really like the diversity as well in HP... that was on our "must-have" list for sure.

Except that property values in that part of London are several orders of magnitude higher than in Lawndale. Like, add two zeroes to the value of whatever Crawford or Fisk could be developed into, and you might be approaching what the space in Battersea Power Station is worth. You can do a lot when you can command £2.75 million ($3.85 million) for a two bedroom apartment.

I agree that it would be nice, but that’s not really a precedent.

I was wondering what kept happening to the link. I thought something was broken. I also thought I was on topic but ok.

More suburban BS coming to Bucktown. This time it'll be 34 units + ground floor commercial. Building permit was issued yesterday. Getting rid of a mostly 1 story non descript manufacturing building at Western & Altgeld (near the expressway) --> https://www.google.com/maps/place/24...!4d-87.6873504

Here's a look at the last rendering known from over 2 years ago via DNAInfo:

Can't say that I'm not sad to see the Rock and Roll McDonald's like that. I always pictured it at the base of a supertall on the rest of the lot. Probably because I watched "*batteries not included" as a kid.

Ok, I’ve been reading comments like this for years.

Look at this picture.

Now answer me this:

Have you been to the suburbs? Have you lived, or spent time out here?

Because other than some older stuff, or some newer TOD kind of stuff built near the Metra, we have NOTHING—nilch—zero—that resembles stuff like the above getting built.

So I don’t have a clue where comments like this come from.

Not sure what we should expect that would be better, especially on Western Ave next to the highway onramp and far from public transit?

People spout out the word “suburban” now to describe anything they don’t like, or looks boring, without it meaning anything.

If you look at your typical prewar commercial building on a strip in Chicago, it pretty much looks the same as a prewar commercial building on a main street in an old suburb.

So this notion that inner city buildings somehow are supposed to look different, be edgier or more stylish, than their counterparts in the suburbs, has no historic precedent.

What a suburban post...

Yeah, I'm not sure what is so suburban exactly about that development. Ground floor retail, no curb cuts... sure the design isn't stellar, but like West Town Brad said, what do you expect when the project is right by an expressway on ramp? And on busy and noisy Western Ave? The design will reflect the pricing/rent flow of the units.

I've spent plenty of time in suburbs. Not only the Chicago area but numerous other areas. You are right..I meant it to mean a boring design. Even though it's a small development it could be better in design. It replaces a worse building, and the density is nice but it's too bad too many of these types of buildings have inhabited various parts of Chicago.

Dull is fine by me.

But seriously, I get a chuckle when city residents complain. I mean, you need to take a field trip out to Schaumburg to really get an appreciation for how good of a development the one pictured above is.
