Personally, I'm pulling for Aldi to do a South Loop store like the new one at Wells & Division. But I fear there are not enough "stock up" customers near Wabash & Harrison.
Could be Plum Market; the operating situation there seems similar to 1233 N Wells. Might also be Bob Mariano's new "Dom's" concept; the Lincoln Park store they're building now is only 18,000sf.

It's obviously not Jewel; they're fine with two locations on Roosevelt and two on Division, but I doubt even they would add a third store in the same submarket. Mariano's itself is already present at 16th and Clark. Any other full-service groceries I can think of are probably too downmarket for South Loop.

Dom's market is actually a collaboration between Mariano and the Dominick's heirs hence the name. I know someone plugged in with that concept will see if I can find out if it's them. AFAIK they are just starting with the LP location though.

^^^I feel like SCB's residential designs have been getting better over the last few years.

ChicagoYimby also had new renderings of the proposed mixed-use development at 525 S. Wabash:

^^Regarding 525 S Wabash, I really dig this proposal. There are lots of interesting details and they do a great job of hiding the parking podium behind offices along Wabash.

One thing I love about the Chicago skyline is how many of the tallest towers are right up on the Lakefront or Grant Park. In Manhattan, the tallest towers are in the middle of the island while shorter ones are along the rivers, creating a ridge effect. This is one spot where I think having that ridge effect would look nice. I wonder if a developer is going to come around and put some stilts on the parking lot over the L and build a 1,000 footer one of these days. That would be fun.

That's where I used to by pizza rounds - the food safe round cardboard used under pizzas, or for gingerbread houses.

Trees do not survive at those altitudes. The winds are too strong and consistent. They'd have to be fake trees, or you'd have to shelter them from the wind which defeats the purpose of a blow-through floor.

I don't even know how they're going to survive at 166 N Aberdeen, they're not as tall and they are sheltered from wind on 3 sides, but the building appears to deny sunlight to the trees at all times except early morning.

Anyone wanna guess what highrise construction starts we will see in 2021?

I'm guessing it will be mostly a ghost town, but perhaps a few? What are the most likely contenders for the Jan-March period?

I want the buildings straddling the Kennedy to get up and going. Canyonization must continue! Then we need a driving game so we can zoom through at high speed and then onto lower Wacker....then LSD....then back through upper Wacker...can you see I always wanted Chicago to host a Grand Prix race...

Lol, I'll tell all those alpine forests in the Rocky's, Alps, Andes, and Himilayas that the altitude is too high for the trees to exist. There are plenty of reasons not to grow trees in the blow through floor though

How about a tree on top of a skyscraper built in the Himalayas? Would that work?

Insincerely,

Mr. Literal
