I agree, I think it looks fine. Much needed density around the GO station. Can't wait to see this one break ground. The demolition of the existing building on the property appears to be starting.

It's going to be quite a summer for Hamilton, lots of projects are breaking ground.

Is this project even approved? Seems to be progressing rapidly now.

The credit union building is still there. It looks like demolition could begin any moment now.

Maybe they have the demo permit but not the approval for the new build. If so, no reason not to clear the site and get things ready (so long as it doesn't become a new parking lot in the interim!)

You can't demo a building in the downtown and build a parking lot since a while back. That's why there's a bunch of weird vacant lots right beside parking where it would make sense to add more parking.

Wow what a pos. Hamilton is making the same mistakes downtown London and Waterloo made. Where's your DRP & quality architects?

Unlike many European countries our DRP has no real power. In the Netherlands they can go "no, that's ugly, denied".

In Toronto you have power because people come out in droves against ugly buildings. Hamilton is at this in between where not enough people care or have the energy to fight the city and developers constantly.

Then you have people arguing "it's better than nothing" but like, that's a sad argument.

Also, I've heard they will be removing the stucco on the exterior over the next month, then be demolishing the rest. There was asbestos and it has been safely removed.

That looks like full construction prep to me - they typically don’t erect that much hoarding just for a demolition.

What an exciting time for downtown Hamilton. This summer is going to be transformative. So many developments starting. Now we just need The Connolly to finally kick off.....

that is quite a bit of fencing for that little demo, hoping we see some pile drivers arrive on site as well!

I talked to a guy this morning while walking past. They are scraping the sides off the sides first because they are Styrofoam and can be recycled. The poor guy was literally sweeping up Styrofoam in 50km/h winds.

Progress. I'm betting the entire building is down by next week.

Also they have a cool window so you can see what's happening:

I wonder when we'll start to see excavation considering the project isn't even approved. Why knock this building down so soon?

I suspect developers are starting to do the Toronto thing where they start and the city has no choice but to accept their requests.

Same with Darko's building where ether crane is taken down. What is the city going to do? Leave a half built building?
