That's the nearest thing I've seen to an architectural lobotomy. It would have been kinder to tear the old building down.

OK, it had to happen. The UK's big reclad debate - do we or do we not reclad Guy's hospital?

That London building is probably the ugliest damn thing in the whole world.

The proposed reclad looks cool though, kinda like shimmering scales.

i think Guy's look better now than that proposed half-fish-half-lizard facade.

I'd rather see a boring flat glass wall than that!

yeeeaaa. the original guy's looks better.

glass curtain walls can look cheap imo. every building doesn't need a glass curtain wall. and that picture that kingofthehill posted is ridiculous! how does that kinda of thing get approved?

^^^ Well, it's not listed, so it could happen. A lot of hospitals from the 60s and 70s are being torn down and replaced, but I believe this is mainly a teaching hospital, so has less of a priority.

Amanita has a good point - the proposed cladding would probably look better in real life than the picture, with light playing on it. All in all, though, I like the tower in all its current ugliness, if only because it's a big, concrete socialist fist raised in defiance at the growing number of shiny towers around it.

They should have at least kept the podium in its original mid-cnetury modern design! If people wanted to see fake brick structures they should live in the suburban sprawl.

Beginning in 2015, 800 Bell (ExxonMobil Building) will be redeveloped. Some love the new design, while others prefer the developer (Shorenstein) to leave it the way it is.
