Huggkruka's Sketchup Thread

In this thread I'll post the Sketchup creations I'm happy enough with. I'm not that big on modelling skyscrapers but I love trying to figure out effecient apartment buildings and smaller buildings. Whatever, here's an apartment building I made recently:

The building consists of 5 two-story apartments.

Bottom floor contains a small shop and a laundry room for the residents.

The floorplan.

Very well done! Ditto on the type of modeling. I think it's more interesting to design smaller spaces and place them together in a more complex piece. I hope to see more.

That's great! Really refreshing to see this amongst all the textured skyscrapers here.

My only comment is that maybe you can rework the tectonic of the apartments to work to a more structural advantage?

Looks great! I really like that you also included the floorplan. Maybe you should make the dining room closer to the kitchen. They're usually next to each other or are separated by a small space, not the living room.

I just wanted to create a nice-looking apartment building, but I ended up creating this! I swear, the only intentional thing is the colour scheme.

...and I didn't realise where penguins actually live until I had PS'd it into Hammerfest. My brain could use a reboot.

Haha, I love it. It's be a great addition to Dubai. Even though penguins live thousands and thousands of miles away from the 100 degree weather!

Infill
For this model I imagined a plot in a dense city. The plot is only a few meters wide, and one of the long sides is the firewall of a large building. The ground floor is just an entrance, and the floor above it is used for storage and laundry. This distances the apartments from the street below. Apartments are either accessed from a spiral staircase or the elevator, which opens into the entrance hall.

For this apartment building, I imagined everyone would have a large porch-like balcony, one eating place, one sitting group, one small bathroom, one workplace and a double bed. Apart from that, I went kind of nuts with the floorplan, so it doesn't really make much sense. The three floorplans below repeat in clusters, stacked and rotated around the central core. There are 144 apartments, some shops on the ground floor, a green terrace, and office space on the second floor.

What could be the right word? Organic, maybe. And creative, definitely! The floorplan IS crazy, so I wouldn't want to live in this building. It would still be a good landmark in a city, though.

Btw. what software you use to draw those floorplans?

Export from SU to PNG. I drew the floorplans first, then just push-pulled all the walls to make it 3D. I've got a set of 2D furniture based on Swedish standard measurements, which is a great help when sketching floorplans(though here it was more an exersize of puzzle solving!)
