Having lived down the block for 3 years, I can’t wait to see what this does for the area. This section of downtown and specifically RN was the “skinniest”. You couldn’t make it to State Street from Michigan Ave without it being sketchy/deserted.

Rest assured that will be remedied.

This whole project is huge and has a massive floor plate.

There is going to be bustle and hustle here once its done I am sure of that.

Just too many people in eventually in the beat not to.

There will be waves of restaurants trying and failing and some will make it eventfully. But If you build it, it will come applies here.

^ Yes hopefully this project becomes the centerpiece ala JHC ...spurts more quality developments that liven up the street level experience and more importantly gets feet on the ground in the area...nothing more important that having tons of people out and about activating an area... River north has so much more potential to reinvent itself into something really special that streeterville couldn't quite do.

Yeah, there will be 1,000+ people living there and thousands more visiting the retail or working in the office portions.

For many reasons. We enjoy these things going up, but I am more concerned about the construction workers and their livelihood.

Which begs the question, can the crews on these towers reasonably expect to work in relative isolation from each other? I assume that they can cover their skins and hands most of the time and perhaps wear a mask. Has anyone heard of guidance from a construction or demolition company about work restrictions or additional safety protocols?

^ I know this is a Power job, but here is McHugh's Wuhan perspective, as stated on the 'Gram:

@mchughconstruct
#CoronaVirusUpdate We’re still building! But rest assured, at McHugh, the health and safety of our employees, clients, partners and the public in general is always our top priority. We are taking significant steps to ensure we are extra vigilant as the situation involving coronavirus continues to rapidly evolve. We may be operating a little differently than normal for a few weeks, but we will continue doing what we do best – building amazing one-of-a-kind projects for our clients. We’re all in this together, and we will come out just as strong on the other side. Here are a few precautions we’ve implemented so far: - Daily executive phone calls and providing daily updates to the field;
- Updating business procedures we’re prepared to implement should regular operations be disrupted;
- Requiring employees that are sick or who have a household member that is sick with respiratory or similar illness to stay home;
- Limiting our employees’ business travel;
- Allowing employees to work from home;
- Limiting large gatherings to the extent possible;
- Monitoring our supply chains and the availability of workforces to identify and plan for any possible disruption of labor, materials and supplies; and
- Engaging in regular monitoring of CDC and other governmental agency guidelines to evaluate new developments and adjust our procedures accordingly.

I work for a major Chicago contractor and am at the office today. Owners are fighting tooth and nail to not shut down, and if they do I think that would mean the outlook for construction in the city (and country) would be pretty grim.

Lets hope we whether this storm!

This site is so Yuge, with so much to look at.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the only location in Chicago, if not the country, with a [near}-supertall across the street from a 100 year old 3-flat. When everything is complete, it will be one jaw-dropping juxtaposition.

I guess the fact that it's several stories out of the ground already is a good omen
