They're awfully large to be landscaping features. If that's the case then someone spent a lot to create them for basically no reason

Look at Lag. built in 1966 back when Winnipeg was 500K and the city extended no further south than Fermor, Lag. now backs up from Bishop all the way to Chief Peguis on a fairly regular basis because the number of vehicles is much greater than the the road capacity.

Places like Fargo, Regina and Saskatoon have six lane arterial roadways which seems to be verboten here. City of Winnipeg now at 800K + and growing and the basic road network is the same as the 1960's!

Expansion to 6 lanes requires changes.

The design for Portage would use the existing bridge. They're currently 3 lanes each including the exit lane. Probably get rehabbed. Would need to add more bridges to keep the cloverleaf in service.

Roblin bridge was just re-constructed. So the costs for grading aren't too bad.

Wilkes is pretty crappy as is. But again 6 lanes requires changes.

haha ya I see no technical reason for them to be there. It's almost like a gateway thing. Welcome to Winnipeg, here's some trees placed in a circle. The one on the south side was partially lopped off to make room for the ditch when the ramp was changed.

Oh, didn't realize you were talking about those "loops"!

Yeah, you can see them from Google Street View... they're just trees.

Yes they're trees, but they happen to be the right dimensions for clover loops. Just seems like a colossal waste of effort to produce something only appreciable from above...

Anyway I filled out that survey. Comments on select interchanges are same as those that I have expressed in this thread.

It looks like something, maybe temporary? Grabbed a screenshot for context.

Ah yes, never mind. The trees.

Was the opposition vocal? Did MIT say where the funds will come from?

Did not attend but there is no funding for this project. It was uniquely a design study. The results will guide the future development of Perimeter Highway as funds are dedicated to improving it.

Pallister has not given any indication that this will happen in the upcoming budget year, and unless some sort of crazy dump of money like Regina got for their bypass, this will be done in a piece-meal approach rather than all in one go.

There are some rumblings that it might be announced in the State of the Province lunch tomorrow.

I would assume, hope, they've been doing costing exercises throughout the study. Will be interesting to see if Pallister says anything.

Did you read it off CTV News? I was actually gonna quote the comments and criticize it harshly but decided not to.

Seriously, what does he expect when his property abuts a major cross-country route? If he really doesn’t like it, he should move to Île des Chênes. I guess I just offered my harsh criticism, didn’t I?

Ps: Where’s the island in Île des Chênes?

I need to stop going on the comment boards on any sort of platform. Comments again on the social medias and a news article were insane.

Now that I come to think about it, there are still 2 information sessions - one today and one tomorrow, so I doubt that the lunch tomorrow will be an appropriate time to divulge much (if anything) about this project.

@bomberjet: What’s the problem?

Just the typical, cynical attitudes of people. Everything is shit. Be more like Regina. ffs. Things like that. lol

Facebook is the worst place. And people rely on it for their 'news'.

It should be limited to sharing or personal things, such as photos and such. The rest is just pure garbage spam. Influencing elections with straight up lies, but there are no controls. Really is shit. But it's all in the name of 'free speech' Ie: large profits for the owners.

Enough about that. Hoping Brian P does say some stuff about the project. Anyone attending the open hoses maybe could ask too. I will not be attending in person.
