Would not be the city requiring them but Nav Canada or Transport Canada may have a requirement for obstruction marking beacons on the building

I like it too.. stands out. just wondering why this building has so many beacons when even the somewhat taller Radisson hotel doesn't even have its signs lit.. but then you notice the squat holiday inn at memorial and portage has beacons.

My impression is that might be because it is a new high rise (Winnipeg hasn't had many recently). I always thought that of the Hydro Building - it has a ton of red beacon lights on it's roof.

Must be a new requirement in the past ten years or so - only new high rises are 300 Assiniboine, Hydro and the Museum (can't picture if Glasshouse or Alt have any) and all have numerous red aviation beacons.

Could be that Glasshouse and ALT are nestled within some other large (relatively speaking) towers. Radisson and then P&M.

It'll be a game changer if the Fort Gary towers did some up lighting cause this building brightens up that whole corner of the evening skyline

^The best part about the way they did this one too is that it's not some elaborate expensive strip lighting that costs a fortune to install and maintain. It's like 8-10 flood lights, any building could add something similar for minimal dollars. Even just lighting the top of a building would make a big difference.

a major landmark that should be lit at night is the dome on union station. u cant really see it from broadway, but from the forks or the revolving restaurant it would look great illuminated IMO. after just being in Kansas city and seeing what they have done to their train station, makes me look at ours and think of the possibilities.....

it's a great town! do it! lots of amazing art deco buildings being brought back to life everywhere. Kansas city, KS is just a big suburb - don't even give it a second thought.

Agreed. There is a lot more work to be going on there in the near future as part of The Forks' revitalization. FNP offices should be opening on the main floor in November with entrances right on Main. The parkade on the lot to the north of Union Station is in the earlier parts of the master plan as well.

I've just recently noticed random suite lights on at night on all sides of the building so I imagine it's started.
