Didn't realize they were doing this, but a LED advertising screen is getting installed at the corner above Hooters.

Just a little update to AZ Center. Looks like they are training the Freshii employees today and getting close to opening. BoSa Donuts has a sign up, but the interior just started construction. It was a pretty good lunch crowd today...showing signs of improvement for AZ Center. With BoSa, Kwench, Freshii, the Flag World and Starbucks, it is starting to make 1 side of the mall look pretty full. Hopefully, more retail is in the works soon.

https://azbigmedia.com/newly-renovat...-on-new-hotel/

Overview: AC Marriot breaks ground next month followed by the apartment tower. Hotel has been reduced to 13 stories from 16. And of course, no hints to how long after the hotel that Palmcourt will grace us.

3 new businesses but no new retail...typical

I think the 13 stories may be a little mis-leading. Below is a the current proposed layout (image courtesy of PHX Rising). It looks like there are 13 usable floors with a 14th level roof/bar. Add to that, the parapet which adds up to more height. It's hard to read, but I think think the 14th floor roof looks like it says 156'. Add another 8' or so for the parapet. So I'm thinking AC will be around 160' give or take. Not too bad for the location. This will fill up the gap between APS and the garage nicely.

I sure hope so! I love the Times Square feel/look in a Downtown environment!

So according to the above article and ABC15, the AZ Center renovation has been completed. So, I'm assuming the 2nd level will be left as is with all the old red floor tiling and the second structure that was to be built on the corner of 3rd and Van Buren across from Hooters will not be built? Wasn't there supposed to be a second phase for the renovation?

Edit: More from AZ Family. Pretty much a rehash of the above articles. But states the plan is to start on Palm Court shortly after groundbreaking of AC. Hope this holds true.

I wouldn't trust AZfam and ABC affiliate to be the most accurate for these kind of things, they are just pushing forward the press release that the Remodel (first Phase) is done.

I wouldn’t trust the website for Arizona Center either - check out the ‘map’ of downtown they put together. Clearly used a design firm from out of state...

Was at AZ Center yesterday and there is a nice big wall poster of the Phoenix skyline in the restroom. Thought I would share it with y'all

It's actually a pretty good pic although a little blurry. Wonder where it was sourced from?

Article discussing the AZ Center renovations, AC Hotel and Palm Court Tower. Kind of a rehash of everything we already know...BUT...some news on the AMC theater portion. Apparently a plan is in the works to eliminate half the screens and possibly add more retail and student housing. This is good news. I'm really hopeful they can maybe add an extension of Taylor St. (Mall). Hopefully, we will get more on this soon, but looks like it may be a bar/dining concept similar to Esplanade AMC.

Quote:
The existing AMC Arizona Center 24 movie theater is 90,000 square feet and has 24 screens, which Root said is an “outdated” model. A cinema about half its size will be constructed in its place, and additional retail and residential space — possibly student housing — will eventually be attached on the theater’s north side.

“We have a number of regional and national theaters right now that we’re finalizing negotiations [with], including our existing operator, AMC, to redevelop that whole footprint into a more immersive theater that changes the way we experience film,” Root said. “Think of in-cinema dining, bar offerings, reclining seats, really just a great experience to bring people together.”

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it is permanent. They are calling it a "pop up store" and will only be open from May 22 to May 27 for Fan Fusion.

I walked by yesterday. Nothing going on...not even vegetation removal yet.

Here is my email with the Property Administrator for Parallel Capital Partners who own Arizona Center:

Me: “When are the AC Hotel and the Palm Court Tower supposed to break ground and start construction?”

Them: “We appreciate your interest in Arizona Center. Both development sites are scheduled to begin construction this summer.

For the latest on what’s happening at Arizona Center please follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We’ll be sure to post about the ground breakings once we have more details.”
